Re: Dal santo
if we thought we could push for the flag next year then maybe as a rookie. But is he still the player he was?

Re: Dal santo
Still has the silky skills. But as slow as treacle. Not that that is much of a change.
Love the Dal. Gutted he went. But not sure we're into retro recruits now.

Re: Dal santo
It's a no from me. He doesn't offer much for us at this point in our push for the grand prize, and has the massive downside of taking games away from our young players that need to build experience.

No Way!!!!! As a club we are passed that, if we took Dal that would be a massive step backwards!!!!!shrodes wrote:It's a no from me. In any event, it's now confirmed he'll be available (see separate thread!)

Re: Dal santo
The big silver lining is his son will only qualify for stkilda under f/s, assuming it still exists by that point.

Re: Dal santo
He's officially a available. Roos have just announced it's all over for Dal, Boomer, Petrie and Firitto.
Love Dal but this confirms Pelchen was right and the Kangas were wrong in trying to top up for a Premiership.

I love Dal as well. One of the greats and one of my favourites. But no. Just no.
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

Thoughts?
Re: Dal santo
Only left because of scott watters. I reckon theres always a spot for dal at stkilda, fantastic servant to the club and would really benefit the development of Billings. Bring him in on a rookie contract or f.a either way get him back in the red white and black!

Re: Dal santo
A joke surely?
Are we a serious club or a retirement village?
Serves no purpose and prevents us developing our kids.
I love Dal but the club would not give this even one second's thought.

Re: Dal santo
If Joey does a knee or snaps an achilles this week and decides to hang them up, then get Dal on the phone to play that role behind the ball.
If not, then we've moved beyond NDS.

Re: Dal santo
While we are on the subject of former stars possibly returning, would you have Banger as an assisstant coach for 2017?
I understand he is available.

Re: Dal santo
As with Goddard, sits off the contest looking for the easy possession - then dinky little disposals.
When Dal Santo started he was an awesome tackler but as his view of self increased tackling disappeared.
And his efforts when "tagged" were what they were - just far too easily cut out of a game.
There were reasons why he and Goddard were the 2 moved on.

Champion player. Life member. Up there with a few others to have played the most finals for St.Kilda. Hope they invite him to the Best and Fairest where his career can be celebrated properly. (Provided he's not playing on of course)

Re: Dal santo
I'm for it.
One of the reasons Essendon won the '93 flag, after missing the finals with 12 wins in '92,
was by bringing back Tim Watson, then aged 32. It wasn't that he provided much in the
way of goals or possessions, but his presence created a great vibe and he helped straighten
out the Baby Bombers on the field.

Re: Dal santo
Providing we don't waste a good pick on him (e.g. redrafting Fraser Gehrig in 2008), I don't see the harm in picking him up. Has a wealth of experience, still displaying reasonable form and provides great leadership qualities.
Curb your enthusiasm - you’re a St.Kilda supporter!!

Re: Dal santo
He'd be a fantastic pick up as a rookie. Still playing good footy... never wastes a touch. He plays an outside game which is not a role that wins you much admiration... a la Joey this year... but all the good sides have them. Still playing good footy... never wastes a touch, terrific clubman and a quality person. He'd be a great teacher for our next crop of quality ball users... Billings, Sinclair, Templeton etc.
