I support it 100%. Taking my kids who usually don't go to night games.
Very proud of the club and hope the members and punters turn out in droves

It's been a brilliant marketing move from the club. Lets be honest - St Kilda has some baggage with some unsavory controversies and this helps redeem that in the publics eye and helps with members, sponsors and even television ratings. Watching all these other clubs have their big event games with huge media coverage has made me jealous. Now we've got our own that we developed and that is a very hot/relevant theme and should be for the next decade. IT could just get bigger and bigger and more sponsors might want to get involved in pursuit of the pink dollar and show their social conscience. If we swapped it with Sydney each year that would be cool to show its not just Victoria but Australia wide.
And I quite like the stripey rainbow numbers (as a one-off)

Yes I support it.....
BUT.....
It needs to be careful not to tread into condescending territory. In everything I've seen regarding promotion etc, we've been really fantastic in the "angle" of inclusion and equality. But these things can get out of hand pretty quickly. I think the indigenous round is a good example, it's a bit of a sideshow nowadays.

Keep politics and issues like this out of footy. We just want some good old fashioned footy...

Rubbish IMO, sports attract kids and are one of the best ways of introducing them to real world concepts around inclusiveness and respect for those around who differ in race, religion, sexual preference or gender. We all love footy, but to say there's nothing more that footy can be used for than pure entertainment seems short-sighted. Safe to say I am very much for this concept, and related ones like multiculturalism round.tonyh wrote:Keep politics and issues like this out of footy. We just want some good old fashioned footy...

We are tapping into a brand new potential supporter base - that is pure gold - its what clubs are constantly striving to do, looking for new markets. If you like footy already you usually already have your club. But if you can drag in fresh folk without an allegiance through the gate - bang - you have a great chance as turning them into members of your club.

Re: POLL: Do you support the PRIDE game concept?
personally i don't really care. but i have a gay mate in melbourne and he and his partner are going to the game and he's thinking of following the saints. already bought some merchandise to show support.
so if it means i''ve got a mate to go to the footy with when in melbourne then i'm all for it.

Re: POLL: Do you support the PRIDE game concept?
Well put. Footy should be inclusive i.e. nobody should feel like they don't belong. Concepts like tonight's should help improve the culture at the club level across the league and within supporter base as well. A side benefit is the improved club image and potentially increased number of supporters and therefore income.shrodes wrote:Rubbish IMO, sports attract kids and are one of the best ways of introducing them to real world concepts around inclusiveness and respect for those around who differ in race, religion, sexual preference or gender. Re: POLL: Do you support the PRIDE game concept?
I support it but only just. Is it something footy should be involved in? Probably until an AFL player is comfortable coming out.
It's good for the club obviously and I hope it can fast track the first player to come out. I wish Thorpe was able to come out when he was the best in the world in 2000. Image where this issue could be if he had, can't blame him though.

I support it .
I was in the " couldn't give a rat's tossbag " category . however after listening to allot of people talking about the issue , I say , if it helps just one person then its worth it .
What I would like to see is a few people leading the cheer squad in the mode of the late Paul lynde .
I always loved his work .

Same sex relationships are just part of life. "something footy should be involved in" I think you will find that as same sex relationships are part of life, then they are part of footy, unless footy is some sort of twilight zone where only hetrosexuals live.... but I doubt that.Goose is king wrote:I support it but only just. Also the rest of the LGBTIQA community.
Next week, they will add yet another letter to the acronym.

Didn't realise Bacon Lettuce and Tomato was so popular.
But if it get's our membership up then i guess it is worthwhile.
How many other minority groups can we tap into first and claim as "ours" before the other clubs wise up?

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

Agree with your BUT - but I don't support it.
Good chance for the club to grab some cash though after the Wellington deal fell through.
I am more than a little sick and tired of different jumpers and needing a "theme" to go to the footy.

We've had a few high profile gay supporters. Molly Meldrum, Graham Kennedy, Peter Hitchener and Tracey Grimshaw amongst them. Synergy is what the marketers call it, I believe.

Grimshaw being touted as gay, is that just because Gordon Ramsay called her a lezzo?

I'm not against it and without trying to sound synical or negative, it comes across a bit opportunistic. It's like we're trying to find our niche or something like that.
Anyone who can fog a mirror should be welcome to the footy anyway. Leave your bulldh!t predjudices and baggage at the door.
Crikey, dead people should be welcome too. That would be a lucrative niche.
