Re: Hurley!!!!!
Yeah their spine wouldn't be too bad at all going forward. Hurley, McDonald, Gawn, Hogan, Weiderman. Along with their midfield they would set themselves up well although I dont rate Hogan as much as certain media flogs. You'd think he's the second coming the way some go on about him. I'd take our forward line any day.saintsRrising wrote:That would give the Dees 2 really good key defenders.tony74 wrote:Don't just think it's the Dogs. If the Demons got Hurley and Weideman comes on - the Demons are a genuine contender. Simple as that.stkfc1 wrote:Yeah their spine wouldn't be too bad at all going forward. Re: Hurley!!!!!
If Hurley says he wants to play for us...
In a fair and reasonable world, what do we give up to get him?
Is it worth it if we have to give up a young gun?
** please don't respond with "screw Essendon, they screwed us on Carlise and Lovett and blah blah blahhhhh"

Longer is the obvious answer, but it wouldn't get it done. And if the club genuinely believes Longer is the long term No. 1, then there will be no better time to cash in on Hickey than after the season he's having.
Sure, we take a step back in the ruck department, but I think we have pretty handy cover with Longer and Pierce, as good ruck cover as any club in the AFL.
Only problem would be that Essendon brought in Luenberger already, and might prefer to fill other positions first (need some reinforcement down back once they lose Hibberd and Hurley.)
Hickey 9 months younger, now hitting his prime, and both have 1 year left on their contracts.

He won't be going anywhere. He extended his contract to another four years in April.felix wrote:We give up Bruce. Hurley and Carlisle can both play forward .

Re: Hurley!!!!!
If you take Demps and Fish out, where are we with big backs. We've got Carlisle who looks the goods (hopefully has matured a bit). Goddard has showed a bit before doing an achilles. Roberton is showing signs he could mature into a genuine third tall defender. Then it drops off pretty quick with Lee looking unlikely, Delaney looking a depth/horses-for-courses player, Coughlan 2nd chance after not making it at another club. We probably do need some depth in the tall backs.
He's a pretty good rebounder which we desperately need but can play tall at the back. My issue is that we would have to give up our first rounder which I think we need to use on a silky skilled midfielder - but hey if we land Fyfe too that fixes that problem.

Considering we gave top pick 5 for Carlisle and a few extra bits and pieces going elsewhere something similar would be required i think.
First round draft pick 2017 and Sinclair/ Templeton or Longer. and probably a 3rd rounder( not necessarily all going directly to Essendon)
Get back Hurley and perhaps a second round pick ( as don't have one this year)

If we can't get him, then I hope he negotiates a mega deal like Boyd or Buddy that hamstrings another club from luring anyone else for the next 5 yearsCon Gorozidis wrote:I still believe Hurley is just upping his $$ and will stay at Bombers.

I think it's been a done deal since we announced our interest in picking him up and then almost immediately said we weren't interested any more. There has been a lot of smoke with this one.

If they lose Hurley and they have already lost Carlisle then they will need two more tall defenders - Lee & Delaney.The_President wrote:If Hurley says he wants to play for us...

Re: Hurley!!!!!
They can have Longer, Lonie and our 3rd round pick.
Hurley will look great running around in a saints jumper next year and he'll even get to keep his number 18.
