Brayshaw looked amazing last year… and many of the best players in the comp didn't look so in their first year, so I don't think it means a lot long term, but Gresham has been very exciting and has got better as the year has gone on.

Best game of the season for the first-year midfielder which is another tick in the rebuild. The opposition wasn’t great — how many times have we said that in the past two weeks? — and not even his career-high 25 disposals was the high point. The fact he was St Kilda’s No. 1 contested possession winner with 13 and was the game’s leading clearance winner with eight was the positive. They’ve found one, the Saints.

I love young Jake, but Mills is an absolute gun. I'm pretty happy with we have got though. Was at the game with a Carlton mate and he was in awe of our youngsters. Been a long long time I've heard anyone say that about the saints (outside us biased supporters)

Re: Pick 18 Jade Gresham
I said it before the game in another topic that I think he is the best draft selection since Jack Steven. He may be better than Steven on early indications. Much smarter and much more composed. His poise and decision making is elite.
Re: Pick 18 Jade Gresham
He had started well
I have seen Aaron Francis be ordinary in the VFL... But he has also stepped into afl very impressively ...
But Gresham plus Carlisle
Looks good

Many thanks to the Essendon FC!kosifantutti wrote:Jake Carlisle was the steak knives in the Jade Gresham trade.
Have loved watching his progress thus far. The kid's going to be an absolute gun.

He looks like his build is highly durable.
Add on his already freakish ability to find the ball, find space and hit targets under pressure
He could star for us for the next 15 years and be a 300 gamer!!!

Wouldn't it be ironic if he broke Boomers record given the connection. Type of player that could. He's one of many highlights for the year.

I love the fact he has a sidestep/baulk that creates space and if they do catch him, he either bounces off or breaks free.
Still waiting for closure ... if you get my drift.

Was that his first game at the G? Did he play in the round 3 match against Collingwood?

Re: Pick 18 Jade Gresham
Not sure if he did ...but his early games were in the forward pocket ( I think to get a few games into him to ease him into to the pace of AFL, before venturing into the middle).snoopygirl wrote:Was that his first game at the G? Did he play in the round 3 match against Collingwood?
His disposals will obviously increase with his time in the middle , that second quarter was as good as I've seen from anyone so young and inexperienced
He's going to be a gun

Re: Pick 18 Jade Gresham
It is a hard comparison. They are very different. Jack is a runner and Gresh has the poise and balance of a natural footballer. Gresh is bound to stand out earlier considering who Steven had around him.skeptic wrote:It's hard to compare because we saw so little of Jack earlyCQ SAINT wrote:I said it before the game in another topic that I think he is the best draft selection since Jack Steven. A football brain with the talent to match. He will get more attention from the opposition next year, but I think will be watching something pretty special for a lot of years to come.

Re: Pick 18 Jade Gresham
Number 1 without a doubt.
Sure, Carlton did the right thing in taking Weitering and Brisbane did the right thing taking Schace, as you need to lock in good key forwards & defenders when building a list. However Gresham, at this stage was the best player in the draft by a mile. If you had the No.1 pick and already had sufficient KPPs on your list, you take him in a heartbeat.
I haven't seen such a good young midfielder at the Club in my entire time following the Saints (since 1975), yes I saw Harvey's 1st season and yes he's better. Supporters older than I may rate Ian Stewart higher, I cannot make the comparison. I'd be interested to hear what they think.
I'll say it again, don't worry about Bontempelli & Petracca, this kid is the sh*t. Well done to our recruiters, one day the teams that had the 17 picks before us, will rue the day.

Just looked at that list again, poor ol' Richmond, taking Rioli (who has potential) ahead of Gresham! Will it be another Franklin/Roughead moment for the Tiges?

Mmmm, Gresh, Billings & Steven alongside our inside monsters, that's quite a midfield we're building.

Re: Pick 18 Jade Gresham
From the moment I saw this guy during pre-season.. I was thinking... oh yep.. this kid can seriously play. Looked like he belonged at A.F.L level immediately. All class. 25 touches and spent plenty of time in the middle yesterday... and is getting better and better every week.
Had a good look at him after the match yesterday. Still plenty of puppy fat/no real muscle definiton yet so his upside physically could be massive over the next few years.
He reminds me of a shorter Gavin Wanganeen. Tough, Classy, Influential, Vision.... Always seems to have a spare second up his sleeve if he needs it. Could possibly kick goal of the year a few times as well.
I smile pretty much whenever he goes near the ball.... it's an excited... ohhhh yeahhhhhhh... we get to watch this guy play for the next decade type of smile... So happy he's a saint. Sounds like an awesome kid as well. Great attitude. SAINTS!

Only behind Mills and Parish in terms of draftee rankings:

Yes...It's wrong of the side to include Tippa in that list. He was an Essendon rookie listed player last season and had access to AFL facilities and training.shrodes wrote:Only behind Mills and Parish in terms of draftee rankings:
