If I'm not wrong, I believe the AFL points system rates him as the 4th best 1st year player. I'm unsure how that is adjudicated though.

I was thinking during the game that it wouldn't be surprising if he turned out better than a bunch of the top 10 picks. Absolute steal for us at this point, he looks like a natural and his vision and evasiveness are excellent.

I loved when the carlton player knocked him down and sat on his head - and Gresh just dished off the hand pass anyways as if he always wore that bloke as a helmet!

Re: Pick 18 Jade Gresham
Dont want to go too early because Lewis Taylor looked like a world beater in his first year and looks sh*t now.
But Gresh definitely looks like a top tenner.
Notice Montagna compared him to Lachie Neale so that would be a good outcome if it eventuates.

Jake Carlisle was the steak knives in the Jade Gresham trade.

He rates #1 for player ratings average. I'm not counting Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti because he is 4 years older than Gresh, Parish, Mills, etc.Saintberra wrote:If I'm not wrong, I believe the AFL points system rates him as the 4th best 1st year player. I'm unsure how that is adjudicated though.

Re: Pick 18 Jade Gresham
It is a great topic for us. Clearly he is now way higher than 18. I reckon he would be about 4 - I would have Weitering , Mills and maybe Hipwood ahead of him. After the first two weeks I thought "why is this guy getting a game at this stage ?" . At that point I would have swapped him for a whole heap of them. Today I gave him BOG. He is a keeper !

Re: Pick 18 Jade Gresham
He looks like a footballer - he WILL be the best of the draft - I BELIEVE - having seen him play, I would have been pissed if we did not take him at 5 (6) - forget Carlisle - I am sayind Carlisle is the pick 15 we used and Gresh the 5 - He is a champ - and he is OURS - Sign him - now and forever

Re: Pick 18 Jade Gresham
i think we'll look back in a couple of years and see this was a very good top 18, with a dozen players of that group being good enough to be top 5 in many previous drafts

I think he is one of the most talented players I have ever seen pull on a St Kilda jumper.

Re: Pick 18 Jade Gresham
Nor would I . The OP post asked two questions.Goose is king wrote:So George27 if Carlton or Sydney said they wanted Gresham for Weitering or Mills would you take the deal. I wouldn't
1. Where would you rank him now? Answer - IMHO, 4. He is not going to win the Rising Star. He is currently $101. A lot of those ahead of him are second or third year players, but Mills, Parish , Weitering well ahead of him.
2. Where would he rank in the fullness of time ? My Answer - "He's a keeper ". Sorry if that was not clear enough, but to me potentially he is the best of the lot of them, and I would not trade him. IMO he is ahead of Parish, will have Mills covered, and as good as Hipwood could be we have our KPF. Weitering would be tempting , but there is something so exciting about Jade. He could give us a lot of joy for a long time.
Re: Pick 18 Jade Gresham
What a player. He had a lot of accolades prior to draft and was overlooked due to his size. Making a lot of recruiters look silly now.

Re: Pick 18 Jade Gresham
George wasn't a case of you not being clear I just posed a different question too you. I agree with Parish being ahead of Gresham this year and Weitering has shown heaps too. Our boy has the most X factor about him of the lot.

adds credibility to the rumour that he was the 5th or 6th rated player on our list for the draft

Re: Pick 18 Jade Gresham
His vision for a first year player is amazing. Knows how much time he's got and uses it perfectly. Seems to always hit a target and put it to a teammates advantage. Great value pick.
