For those who don't want us to make the finals this year

i'll be happy enough if they dont make it.
... give their all to fall short , has character 'n desire build written all over it.
... plus an easier fixture to surge into the finals on next year
added with another pre season and 22 games of experience

good on em if they achieve it this year
... but not sure its what we (truly) need (bigger picture wise)

I think the experience would be invaluable, most first finals appearances end in a loss... Second appearance may see us win a second at least.. Better to get in for development regardless .
I think it would increase the players self belief considerably

So much of me wants us to finish eleventh. Just to continue on with a decent pick and go to the well once more.

Then the other part of me wants us to sneak into the 8, win an elimination final and have a red hot crack beyond that.

Form is form. If you hit the good stuff at the right time of year, anything can happen. It is so even this year.

If anyone had told me at the start of the year that I'd open the paper after round 18 and see us outright 9th on the ladder I'd've told 'em they were dreamin'!

I hope we get in. But if we don't, I mostly hope we don't fall away if we happen to lose this weekend and whatever happens finish the season on a winning streak.

PS making the finals would be good for membership, having said that I think the players have done enough this season to help in that area.

Agree. We have put ourselves in this position purely because its how good we are. We are obviously doing better than expected so why not have a crack. Im sure that in-house they still believe we have a long journey ahead and aren't getting ahead of themselves, so if we make it great if not its a good sign for next year and will keep the fire burning. Just hope we don't get to far ahead of ourselves and trade in a quick fix (ala Richmond) and not a long term solution. I have faith in our current admin that the right choices will be made.

The "dream" if you finish 5-8 on the ladder is making the Preim. Only very delusional dreamers think you can win a flag from the Elim position. Doesn't happen. End of argument.

Rules were made to be broken and it really is a pretty even 8-9 this year. You never know.

There is another benifit also which makes me smile. the higher up the ladder we finish , the cheaper Freeman gets.

I see your point - but not really - that pick was spent last year - the higher up we finish the worse our first pick will be - but .....

What an inspiration for the kids next year - We are closer - those who dared to dream about 10 wins - it happens on Saturday!!!

We got Freeman with next years 2nd rounder. THE filth would have been hoping we finish down the bottom.

Didnt the pies trade that pick to Brisbane?

The trouble with making finals when we are nowhere ready is it runs the risk of lulling the club in to making poor decisions with the list if they think we are closer than we really are. Look at Richmond & North if you want to see what I mean.
