All I have heard is that Saints sources declared we are interested. Then I heard we weren't chasing him any more and that we are not nterested in any more tall backs.

I cant imagine why that would be the case.

The AFL wont want it. The Brand, the community and the players have been through enough.

He has to testify that he didnt know what he was taking but agreed to take it anyway again or was lied to. He had the substance in him remember.

There is no doubt but its a bit late wouldn't you think. He has to prove his contract was compromised through the AFL or through the courts. ge cant just say it was.

Based on the ban he has a good chance but if he nominates us and asks for a trade and that trade cant be done he either stays or he goes to court. That wont happen overnight. Im pretty sure we dont want that either.

Essendon will be dicks and make him declare his hand if we dont give what they want.

I would offer one of our Ruckmen (BL) and a small forward/mid (JL or ET) on this years form. We have surplus and also 3 tall forwards who are showing signs they will dominate over the next 5 years.

We would then have Roberton Carlisle Hurley Goddard and Dempster to cover defensive posts. Carlisle rucking and swinging forward and depth and balance we haven't had in a very long while.

Thats not such a big call. 16 clubs could use Hurley. Only one will get him. Its most likely to be Essendon IMHO. All he has to do is speak. That wont happen until late August. If it is St.kilda we can kiss our first round pick goodbye. If we make him go to the AFL or courts to get his contract void it really means that we dont want him.

I would be more than happy to give up the pick.

Time for us to get aggressive and bag a couple of significant trades. We dont have time to wait for a young player to come on. We have about 6 of them already.

Im not being impatient just realistic. We didnt take Bontempelli and we didn't take Petracca.

Its not me living in a fools paradise. Our ability to pick a smokie out of the draft next year comes down to a one in a hundred chance. We hope Paddy Carlisle Goddard and Billings will give us value, I am happy to be patient.

If we are not as close as we might think how will patience and late first round picks help?

We are going to loose Riewoldt Fisher Montagna and Dempster by the time these boys come on. If they come on. These four will go down as club greats.

i expect we are chasing top 4 by 2018. That wont bring us any closer to a top draft pick from here.
