I reckon Boyd holds him back a bit. He has speed, size and strength. Has a lot going for him in the Kouta mould.
Re: Bulldogs No. 4
Too early to call the better player IMHO.
Sure he's settled in quickly, but Billings has the body of a kid still.

Bugger. Dal's cousin, so a familial connection as well. I hope he and JB don't end up being our next Judd/Ball. The 2001 gaffe cost us at least one flag. I hope history doesn't repeat.BigMart wrote:Had our chance...

Billings will improve but he is not quicker and will never get close to his body strength. Bonty has a lot bigger, powerful frame and is strong in the shoulders. Genetically he has the goods and of course, the height difference we all knew. His aerial ability as he matures will make him elite, no worries about that.

It's not to early to call...

Sorry to be opening a can of worms by starting this thread but at the time of the draft I thought Bontempelli had a lot going for him and seeing him this year and in a full game tonight reinforces that exceptional talent. The scary thing is that this 20 year old has more upside to come once his imposing physical frame matures.

Jack will have to come from a long way back. He looks void of any confidence atm.

Re: Bulldogs No. 4
Way too early to call. Sure The Bulldogs have had instant gratification with Bontempelli as did West Coast with Judd. Ablett on the other hand was a slow burn, I know who I'd prefer to have had out of those two.
Don't worry about Jack he'll be a jet and I'm still confident he'll be as good as or better.
I suppose another question could be, are either Jack or Bontempelli as good as Maverick Weller?

Its been 3 years and Billings will never be anywhere near the player of Bontempelli. Its like the Luke Ball, Chris Judd call. Trout has a lot of work to do to make up for that gaff!

Would be quite happy for Billings to have a Luke Ball type career!Impatient Sainter wrote:Its been 3 years and Billings will never be anywhere near the player of Bontempelli. Its like the Luke Ball, Chris Judd call. Trout has a lot of work to do to make up for that gaff!

Yes, if he can get his body right. Some just don't have the physical attributes to match their schoolboy skill and I hope for Billings sake he can. Bont on the other hand, you could see he had an imposing statue as a 17 year old already.whiskers3614 wrote:Would be quite happy for Billings to have a Luke Ball type career!Impatient Sainter wrote:Its been 3 years and Billings will never be anywhere near the player of Bontempelli. Re: Bulldogs No. 4
Just be patient with Jack, he hasn't had a good run where he has strung a number of games together yet. Yeah he has been with us for 3 seasons and they have all been disrupted seasons for him.
I don't believe that his match fitness is up to AFL level yet, some take longer and it is generally accepted that it takes 3 or 4 preseasons, Armitage if you recall took ages. Jack's been getting by on his skill thus far.
Jack will be a gun midfielder who kicks goals, he is also really good overhead, which we haven't seen much of yet. Don't worry about comparing Jack to others yet. I'm confident you'll all be delightfully surprised.

Re: Bulldogs No. 4
Sorry but dont agree - Bontempelli is already better than Armitage, Ross and whoever you want to throw in. Resilience is another of Bontempelli strengths, Billings was injury prone before we recruited him and nothing has changed. No matter how you spin Billings will never be on a level status as a player...Linton Lodger wrote:Just be patient with Jack, he hasn't had a good run where he has strung a number of games together yet. One is a genuine star the other is barely getting a game.
There is no comparison . Billings is living off his cameo against them last year, other than that he's been disappointing .

Re: Bulldogs No. 4
...by the way what was so great about Bontempelli last night? Indeed he'd make a very good third tall forward, but he was in the end, part of a midfield that was brutalised & beaten by our midfield.

I don't want any treacherous players like Ball ever again.
Overpaid and when he had to take a pay cut, helped the filth screw us over.
