Maverick Weller
Absolutely love this bloke, not the most talented player on our list but he is so passionate about our club and his footy. A bomber supporting mate of mine views him as an integral part of our club and says he is a bit of a barometer. When Mav plays well we generally do.
He is one of those guys that gets that absolute most out of himself and the young boys on the list should look up to him and emulate his passion for the club. A real team player who I enjoy watching play. In a few years when we are back up contending I hope his football keeps improving as he could become an important finals player in my view

and that's the bottom line

Re: Maverick Weller
Would like to see him spend more time in the middle
And Armo spending some time forward
Both are bulls at a gate... They should give each other a chop out imo

Could not agree more.
He won the Lenny Hayes award last year at the B&F and certainly allows our smaller/younger blokes to walk taller when he is around.
Tough as nails and his pressure around the ball causes a lot of turnovers that go unnoticed.
Been good this year and I for one think he will continue to improve.
He and Brucey are our only two forwards to play every game this year and I personally rate them as first two picked along now with Skunk.

Tony74 mentioned a while back, about 6-7 guys who are guaranteed in unless injured.
Including #44.

Re: Maverick Weller
Was on MMM this morning, spoke extremely well, was relaxed and laid back and open to a joke.
Also said that he'd love to play with Lachie one day, but followed up by saying that Lachie would have to come to the Saints because he isn't going anywhere

Didn't hear it, but isn't it great when a player outwardly loves his club.

They tried hard to get Lachie in the off season but Fremantle wouldn't budge.lintonstreet wrote:The_President wrote:Was on MMM this morning, spoke extremely well, was relaxed and laid back and open to a joke.

I thought tonight was his best game for the club. So tough and hard at the ball!

He took about 6 contested marks ! strong hands.StPeter wrote:I thought tonight was his best game for the club. So tough and hard at the ball!
And how about that chase down and tackle of the doggie player on the flank ! he was thinking "not on my watch, you don't "

Is he related to Hammil? The way he's going he'll be that good. Bloody close already.

Re: Maverick Weller
Fair comparison actually. Plays tall but is tough and defensive pressure is great. A break out game tonight. He could step up to A grade if he can replicate that sort of footy. Brilliant to watchsaintspremiers wrote:Is he related to Hammil? The way he's going he'll be that good. Bloody close already.

Re: Maverick Weller
Still only 24. 85 games now.
Really starting to hit his straps. Another big improver and we have lots of footy to look forward to from Mav. 200+ game player.
Weller, Roberton, Membrey. They basically cost us nothing. Great recruiting.

Re: Maverick Weller
Mav shouod be made captain of the club next year - he's the most obvious choice IMO, he'd be a brilliant skipper. Make it happen Saints!
Look again it's the Flash!!
