Rookie watch: Who should be kept, who should be cut?
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-07-20/r ... eep-or-cut
While the backbone of the Saints' list is in good shape, work needs to be done at the periphery to bring in more talent. That could mean multiple players are moved on as St Kilda looks to find those who can help take the club towards its next period of successive finals campaigns.
Joe Baker-Thomas
The category B rookie has split his time between the VFL and the development league, and it's hard to justify a list spot for the athletic New Zealand native. DELIST
Nick Coughlan
The Saints need all the taller defenders they can get, with Sam Fisher and Sean Dempster nearing the end. Coughlan has performed well this season. RE-ROOKIE
Jason Holmes
Done enough to warrant promotion. Although the American big man hasn't played senior football this year, his athleticism and effort mean he is a solid back-up. ELEVATE
Nick O'Kearney
Has shown he can find the football at every level he has played. Worth seeing if that ability translates to the AFL. RE-ROOKIE
Brenton Payne
His impressive marking ability means he is worth persisting with. There are promising signs from the 193cm key-position player. RE-ROOKIE
Josh Saunders
First drafted in 2012 and has split his time between the VFL and the VFL reserves this season. The 21-year-old has had enough chances to impress. DELIST - Dinny Navaratnam

If Longer is going to resign just can't see the point of hanging on to Holmes. Love what Jasons achieved but we don't need 4 ruckman. Longer and Peirce is more than enough backup at this stage. Would rather use the spot for a punt on a rookie KPP defender or outside mid. Hopefully Jason would be picked up by another club.

It seems as though Saunders, Holmes and Baker-Thomas are the ppl most at risk

Re: Rookie watch: Who should be kept, who should be cut?
Holmes is on the Senior list so although Carlisle comes back they could choose to keep him there and cut someone else. That said i think with Pierce, Longer and Hickey and the change in the way the game is played he may be gone.

Holmes is a rookie elevated to the senior list, god only knows why.
Old enough to repaint, but young enough to sell

Coughlan and NOK are the only two certainties to stay IMO.
I understand we already are eyeing off an Irish lad or two as international rookies.

There is no way these 3 survive, especially if they do away with the rookie and extend the playing lists.
Re: Rookie watch: Who should be kept, who should be cut?
Holmes or Longer must go
I would get rid of the one with the most currency... To help cap space for a third tall back. And get us another pick in the draft or assist in a trade.
There is bugger all between Holmes and Longer.
