Re: Win tomorrow and we are 2 games out of the 8
Mathematically we can make it, but probably a year too soon.
Melbourne- danger game, but they don't play Etihad well and we should win
WB - no they are too good for us at this stage
North - Maybe , They are struggling , lack speed ( our strength) and should have beat them last time
Carlton - Should win. They are depleted a little and by then if have won 2of 3 should have momentum and something greater to challenge for
Swans - No . They could win the lot this year
Richmond - Yes. Unlike others above Richmond are poor. Have watched a lot this year and disposal is terrible and rely on too few ( Dusty, Cotchin Rance) Delido may be done with Calf.
Brisbane - yes
Best case scenario 5-2 finish for the season. Would still need to rely on others losing but possible.
Unfortunately not consistent enough yet to pencil in Melb(at Etihad) , Carlton, Richmond , which really we should

The old cliche is happening again. Everyone is saying that the sky is falling this week, everyone's been pessimistic all week.
There's no doubt we will win today.

As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”

Re: Win tomorrow and we are 2 games out of the 8
And if we do win today "Jacks Back" we will only be 2 games out. Then next week will be the season defining game against the Bulldogs. If we were to win that one as well (outside chance but still possible), then I'll declare it right now, we would sneak in.Jacks Back wrote:The old cliche is happening again. They also count the number of wins. Win today and beat North, we are still a chance of winning more games than them.Con Gorozidis wrote:I cannot possible see how we can make it if you include %.

Re: Win tomorrow and we are 2 games out of the 8
No chance of finals.
Hoping we win as many games as possible and the teams below us win even a few more.
We need a winning mentality and as many top draft picks as possible.
Am aware of said contradiction.

Re: Win tomorrow and we are 2 games out of the 8
This is a Richmond fan type of OP. Utterly delusional. We are miles off it.
It would actually be bad if we made the finals this year because the club might be fooled into thinking we arent far away and trade away our early draft picks for a mature player. That would be a disaster.

i don't want to make the 8 this year... prefer another solid pick before the charge really starts.

Re: Win tomorrow and we are 2 games out of the 8
As usual, Citywest, you will attract probably more "supporters" that don't want the Saints to improve TOO much this year because they just love to play with their belly buttons about who should be delisted, who should be drafted, who should play and who should never get a game. Usually, this starts about 5 minutes into the first quarter of the opening round.
Personally, I don't think we can make it at the moment; our percentage is just too poor. Mind you, I'd be absolutely delighted if we did but it is not the be all and end all.
I AM absolutely delighted with the progress we have made this year. Pre-season I thought 8 wins was about where we ight be with 10 a great season. To be 8-8 and 10th on the ladder at this stage of the season is a terrific result. Yes, we still have problems when we have to get on a plane; the bloody Demons have worse problems when the just have to get on a tram to Etihad.
On paper, our backline has looked weak in the past few games. However, once again Dempster, Roberton and Gilbo stood up today and Geary, again, was exceptional. It's too easy to forget Dempster and Gilbo were key players for us during our last run at the flag.
The best thing after today is that, after listening to media-types drone on about how good Melbourne is and how improved Carlton is, we sit proudly 10th on the ladder. The biggest shame of all was I had to work today and didn't get to see the match live 'coz I would have taken great delight telling those Demon wannabes all about it!

Re: Win tomorrow and we are 2 games out of the 8
Con, you are better than that. It would be terrific for the club to make the finals this year, even if we got flogged in the Elim. What a turn up that would be from start of year expectations.Con Gorozidis wrote:This is a Richmond fan type of OP. Utterly delusional. We are miles off it.

Saying that, it's about a 10% chance. We still haven't won 3 in a row for years.
Do you honestly think the club would be stupid enough to think we're going great guns just because we scrape into the finals on the back of an incredibly favourable fixture??
Whether or not we finish 12th or 8th, which is our current finishing range, it will make not an iota of difference for future planning. Who cares what the dumbarse media hacks think.

Up to 90.5% with a 148 negative point differential
Would be great if we could get it back to around 100% by seasons end

Well done Sainters. Nearly kicked ourselves out of it but were still good enough to win. Beat the Dogs next week and I reckon we will get into the top 8 come years end.

Reckon that looks fairly accurate, although against Doggies, no Stringer and Roos just plain awfulsamuraisaint wrote:Last 7 games - my take:

V Melbourne at Etihad - Yes - the hoodoo continues.
V Bulldogs at Etihad - No.
V North at Etihad - no, we haven't beaten them since 2011 - they're losing to good sides but they'll get over us.
V Carlton at MCG - Yep. Probably. Not by as much as I thought we would beat them by at the beginning of the year though.
V Swans at Etihad - nope, hiding. Could get ugly. Over 60 points.
V Richmond at MCG - No - only beaten them there 7 times in 50 years. The record doesn't lie. If we had Carlisle to restrict their Riewoldt it might be different, but we don't.
Brisbane at Etihad - yep - 100 points+.
Which gives us ten wins. Which is what North are on now. Still, if we win 10 games and have a % of over 80 I will be rapt. That is 3 more games than I thought at the beginning of the year. I definitely thought we would finish 5th bottom this year, but if we win tomorrow as we should, we look as though we will be a mid tier side one season earlier than predicted.

Good post, except I think the Tiges are a very ordinary side this year. Player for player, with the exception of their Roo, I think we're more than capable of rolling them if we bring our A game and we don't start off slow again.samuraisaint wrote:Last 7 games - my take:

I think we can certainly match them for pace and intensity.
I work with a bunch of cocky Tiges supporters, so fingers crossed!
