Tommy Rockliff linked to Saints

Post: # 1622811Post coopergrech »

According to Damian Barrett, Tommy Rockliff may consider leaving the Lions despite being contracted until the end of 2017, from Victoria and the Saints are extremely keen and have been made aware of the situation.

Get him Saints!!

Don't know much about him. Would he be a good fit for us?

Apparently he's not big on the metres gained thing like the other week when he got something like 48 touches but the metres gained were very low (like 40 metres) because he goes sideways and backwards. (That may be a little exaggerated but the point is he would be a link up player of which we already have several).

Plus there's talk of 4 million for 4 years - PASS!

As ex-president Peter Summers said:

If it's come from DB there's no chance it's true.

This may be true. If you were a gun player GWS would be a good place to win some premierships.
Bulldogs would be good but surely Boyd is stealing too much money
Then we start to look pretty bloody good

Tommy is a beast ball magnet and a gun player and the Lions skipper. You mention metres gained yeah that is not great atm but they may be because he doesn't have the faith in their young forwards like Schache and Hipwood just yet, and the experienced Josh Walker when he plays along with their midfielder's

Brisbane would want far too much in a trade, he wants too much $$$ and he is too old 27, plus has a very limi.ted inside game.
We would be much better suited going after Tom Mitchell than Rockliff...

Too old for us surely?
Id be looking at Jack Steele or just going to the draft and picking up the best kid available.

No thanks, not worth a trade, especially when our next two years in terms of performance is a relative unknown. If we spend big on a guy that could be 'over the hill' before we have a genuine crack and not just top 8 I would be disappointed.

Little left field, but Essendon lack a decent ruckman.

Any chance we package up something with Longer and have a crack at pick 1?

Pigs might fly...

It would still take two picks in the top ten to get their pick 1. Longer would be steaks knives.

Not if they think a ready made ruckman will benefit them more.
Essendon think there list is ready to go when they all come back.
They had two top 5's last year remember

Not next year they won't. They have Bellchambers coming back next year. With Leunberger why would they look at Longer?

In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

If he came as a FA and cost us absolutely zero and we could afford him - ok

But he is not someone I'd give up something for

Marchbank would be my #1 target
Steele, Ahern, O'Meara - also

I'd be willing to look at trading for any oth those
Pick 9, Longer, Murdoch, Lee, Gilbert

Looking at delisting
Curran, Shenton, (Lee or Delaney), Fisher
Saunders

Note
Would only delist/Trade one of Lee/Delaney
Would on retire Fisher if we landed Marchbank
Probably wouldn't go after O'Meara
Gilbert would only be traded as Steak Knives in any deal or for a younger Lion or Sun wanting out. most probably not traded.

Most likely trade
Pick 9 and Longer for
Marchbank and Ahern or Steele

Murdoch or Lee for
A 3rd round pick

Leaving us only approx
Pick 48, 54, 66
But
2 GWS first rounders

Would have thought too old - probably has 4 years left of peak footy given his age

Very good player but wouldn't class him as elite - although hard to tell in Lions side of the last 3-4 years

I agree with previous posts - too expensive - plus we need elite young midfielders/playmakers with run and carry and line-breaking ability. He's welcome as a FA, of course.

Fro what I've gleaned 99% of the interest is coming fro one party. You will find this may happen a bit in the coming weeks as our progress continues and player/ managers realise we have a bit in our salary cap.
Don't be fooled, our list managers know what we want!

Would love to get him as a FA but I really wouldn't want to part with our first pick unless we had a young star coming back our way, and we'd have to give up a young star to get him if keeping our first pick.

Will be great to be a club that other players want to come to!

For what it's worth, I don't think it would be worth it, might as well throw the money at Gaff or similar who is 2 years younger.

Money not the only reason he is leaving, does not get along with a lot of the players, as they have lost respect for him. Had that run in with Zorko (and others), last year!!!!! He is one of the major reasons Brisbane don't play as team!!!!!

IT's A NO FROM ME!!!!!

'Cause StoneCold Said So'!!!!!

We will be great again once Billy is back playing!!!!!

Agree totally Con, being in Canberra I see a bit of GWS, and Jack Steele who is a Canberra kid (like THE BRUCE). Good player inside and out and a good kid. Definitely worth getting.

Rockliff is a gun and a leader, but isn't he an inside mid? I don't think we need an insider, we have an abundance of them.

Also, O'Meara putting a $750,000 price on his head seems to indicate he has done a deal with a club and he is pricing himself away from Gold Coast and away from potentially interested parties.

I hope we would be cautious about considering him at that price. Although if the kid does fulfil his potential, $750,000 per year would be an absolute bargain.

I'd guess that Freo have been into him or Richmond.

I hope the room in our salary cap isn't being perceived as a gaping vacuum that needs to be filled, asap - and our recruiters aren't sucked in by it.
