You tug a jumper 1cm and it's a free
Bash someone above the shoulders it's play on?...
Other thing I hate
Block unintentionally in the ruck by taking out the ball drop - free kick
Yet When there's a one on two
The one is intentionally blocked to allow an uncontested mark
Happen to roo and Bruce constantly
Bash someone above the shoulders it's play on?...

Re: All about Geelong
Really though, the 8 is set.
Who, outside of Saints fans, give a stuff about the Saints winning when it means nothing aside from possibly getting one spot lower in the draft?
Geelong are a legit flag contender. Of course that's what the greater footy public want to talk about.

So saints fans don't count?
It's why the league is a sham... Every club counts... I give a stuff
I watch footy media and am lucky if I hear 30secs a fortnight about my club

Re: All about Geelong
All this fluff and bubble about the top 8. We, along with many clubs, knew we were never top 8 material this year. Doesn't mean there is no interest in how we are going.
You hear rubbish that when two teams that are outside the 8 play each other there is little interest and it can't be a good game. All media claptrap.
Anyway, positions 5-8 in the top 8 are just revenue raising positions for the AFL's pleasure and have no impact on who will be premiers.

Re: All about Geelong
But logically, when a team isn't in contention for the flag or even the top 8, only the supporters of that team care about them. Based on membership numbers - you could estimate that only about 3% of the footy public care about the Saints.BigMart wrote:So saints fans don't count?

If we were vying for a spot in the 8, then the other clubs in contention would be interested too probably. If vying for a flag, then clearly more and more people would be interested.
I'm not surprised that the story is Geelong losing, as opposed to the Saints winning.
Re: All about Geelong
Most supporters only care about their own club
I don't care for any other team and only care about other results due to how it effects stk
The afl/media can't expect to have 100% of supporters interested in anything
Collingwood vs Freo was a joke the other night
The story on StK vs Geelong was not about
Dangerfield's report
Geelong not being able to beat bottom teams
Hawkins not getting a free kick
It was about
Seb Ross beating Danger
Jade Gresham kicking a freakish goal
Jack Stevens Brownlow chances
Nick Riewoldt being ageless
AR coaching brilliantly
But NO
Why give stk (who?) any credit

Re: All about Geelong
Do people want some dip to go with that chip on your shoulders? Jesus there was stacks on the Saints. Every show I watched/listened opened and did quite a bit on what a great win it was for the saints, how we play an exciting brand of footy that is great to watch and often starting speculating on our chances at the f-word. It was extremely positive and extensive.
Only then did they move on to Geelong which them dropping those 4 points they would have banked puts a dent in their top 4 prospects. We are getting to the business end of the season and the finals and grand final is what the season is all about. Hence people want to start analysing teams in the running more and more. When we are looking at playing finals we'll start getting a lot more analysis (which brings its own pressures). I reckon St Kilda supporters would have to be the biggest martyrs in the AFL.

That is your own issues coming through. It wasn't patronising at all. It was spot on for where we are at as a rebuilding club when the season is closing in on finals.BigMart wrote:Patronising

Another thing that annoys me re the media, the talk of a late charge by the Tigers for the 8. Take a look at the ladder. .1% between us. Yet no talk of the Saints and the 8.

Actually Richo was asked about it in the post-game media conference.borderbarry wrote:Another thing that annoys me re the media, the talk of a late charge by the Tigers for the 8. Take a look at the ladder. .1% between us. Yet no talk of the Saints and the 8.

Not ready yet. The newbies need another pre season under their belt. You'll start to get pretty excited this time next year.

Re: All about Geelong
Personally, I've found Titus O'Reilly's coverage to be more than adequate for my purposes this week ...
"Can the commentators get the Cats across the line? #AFLSaintsCats"
"Great win by the Saints. Umpires really pushed them. Cats challenged them too. #AFLSaintsCats"
https://twitter.com/TitusOReily?ref_src ... r%5Eauthor
"Finally, a game worth watching and one that saved the round from being a complete waste of time.
Geelong are putting together an unimpressive record against bottom sides and it continued here.
That’s being a little unfair to the Saints who completely deserved this win but it’s a worry for the Cats.
Luckily for Geelong, you don’t play bottom sides in the finals, except that time Carlton got in when Essendon got banned and then the Blues beat Richmond (still funny).
St Kilda got to work a lot earlier than Geelong, who didn’t really clock in until the third quarter.
The Cats seemed a bit perplexed in the first half that they weren’t getting everything going their way.
Once the third began, Geelong began to get into gear and it seemed the Saints were likely to be overrun. It perhaps should have been that way but for a combination of the Cats not taking their opportunities and the Saints standing tall.
It was an incredibly exciting ending, made all the more enjoyable by seeing Joel Selwood complain to the umpires after the siren
Hilarious stuff, considering the umpires had made mistakes all the way through, with the Saints on the end of a lot of them. Selwood complaining about umpiring is like big business complaining about tax evasion.
In the end, the Cats had plenty of chances and had only themselves to blame for a sloppy and at times lacklustre display. ..."

Well at least down here in Geelong the Addy, of course full of Cats articles, gave us a decent run (with a fair reference to local boys Jack & Paddy naturally)

Re: All about Geelong
And it was more of the same on Foxtel. Even though we won the knobs went out of their way to demonstrate how the Saints COULD HAVE lost the game! Of course this was entirely dependent on Geelong being "switched on" enough to have recognised in an instance what these knobs had 48 hours to dream up.BigMart wrote:Glad I waited up for FC to watch some stuff about the saints

Of course, StKilda could have won because they outplayed Geelong and dug deep several times late in the game to get back in front. But I doubt it.
The media finally convinced me StKilda didn't win; Geelong lost.
Apparently they were not switched on!

I do love Titus's line about the Cats looking perplexed that things werent going their way.
I mentioned this to my daughter while watching the replay for the upteenth time.
Sometimes they just looked like "hey thats not supposed to happen, where is the part where the umps start paying us ridiculous frees for ducking"

Re: All about Geelong
This reminds me of early 2004 when we beat them in the Anset cup night final.
They whinged then and called Hamill a sniper, and had the audacity to say that even though we won they were the better team.
What joy when we played them the next week in round 1 and smashed them by 10 goals.
One of my best memories of recent years, and how good it was to beat them again on Saturday night!
