Robbo was cool under pressure

Post: # 1622059Post Scollop »

I thought he was easily best on until half time. He played Fisherstyle or Enrightesqe at times. Disposal efficiency in that first half was first class and his intercept marking was a feature. If you get a chance to watch the replay I'm sure you'll agree that he's come a long way and I have a feeling that Richo has a lot to do with his success. He's stringing together some consistent performances and I reckon he's a keeper.

Has had his two best games with Fisher and Dempster out. Has stepped up. Seems to relish the responsibility.

I think one of the major things to take out of the last two games is how well the backline has held up without Dempster, Fisher and Lee.

Delaney has played well and Roberton has really stepped up.

Not sure why Lee gains a mention, but the backups have backed up - very pleased.

Gave him votes

Not sure how he was emulating both an AA dual B&F Key Position Defender
And
An Multiple AA dual B&F small defender

But he played a pretty good game as a 3rd up and he gave good drive

All the talk is about 'team defence'. Presumably when that's working for us it's easier to slot players in and out - even if this one's not strictly a key position player, that one's more of a running defender, and so on.

Sorry should have been more clear, trying to point out our lack of kp backline players

Has he improved in the air this year? I think he might have, as the year has progressed. If he can get a little stronger in those airial duels he will become even more valuable..

I know he is not a pure KPD but certainly it is possible that he is improving in that area as KPDs usually develop relatively late as they learn how to contest aerial contests.

Thank god the umpire didn't pay a free against him to Hawkins in the last minute.

He's not a little fella is he. 194 cm according to the club website. Just turned 25 this week. Barring injury will play his 100th game this year. Great get from Freo for nothing. Have been a fan since his first year with us.

One of the few decisions the umpires got right.

Not sure why that was even considered a free kick? Players clicked their feet with eyes on the ball, and fell over. happens a lot.

Robbo is listed 194
Is about an inch shorter than Nick R so that is hard to work out? I think those listings a bit like the NBA basketball HT measurements.

God you keep quoting historical awards as if it will automatically kill the arguement about our older players. Stop living in the past. The now and future is what we have to deal with. Players can decline with age. Having an award on your wall doesn't mean you keep playing at that level for until you are 40. Stop trying to defend players with awards and talk about how they are playing now.

I think Robbo is thriving with more responsibility and I wouldn't want to see both Fish and Demps come back in together - one or the other - to let Robbo keep playing more a key backmen role. If Robbo can keep playing tall but also give us some run and dash then he could really come into his own. To me thats the future - and the now.

Anyone replacing Lee would be a bonus to the team. He's played less than half a game this year.

Shouldn't make ridiculous comparisons

Why mention Corey Enright
Who is an all time great, possibly in the best handful of SMALL defenders in the history of the game in the same discussion as a GOP utility half back who played a good game.
Or indeed a AA KPD of which Roberton is nothing like

This need to compare players with past greats after a good game is stupid ... Particularly if the comparison is silly.

Roberton is more in the mould of Andrew Mackie or Grant Birchall in his style as a player, but still not even that similar to them

Your bagging of Lee is irrational and usually factually incorrect.

Roberton has just turned 25 and has now played 93 games and so is entering his prime playing years. So we need him to keep playing at this level now.

I felt very comfortable when he had the ball in his hands on the weekend. He could end up playing the role that Fisher played in 09 & 10 where he was able to read the play, zone off his man, take intercept marks and set up plays from defence.
