#19 Gilbert

Post: # 1621954Post micksaint777 »

Much maligned player but in the last ten seconds of the fourth quarter made a fantastic save against two Geelong players that allowed the ball to be pulled to the ground and a goal shot denied that could arguably have saved us the match. Fair criticism is due, but you also got to give credit where it is due as well.

Good work Gilbert. You are a polarising player but you have saved us tonight.

Two of the worst kicks I've seen this season back to back...one awesome, the other not so much.

Without starting another thread, I thought other members of the maligned brigade also had good nights.

Geary has been spoken about already.

But I reckon #17 also had a very, very solid game.

Some on here don't see him as part of our future but for mine Robbo is a very important cog in our defence.

Typical Gilbert game - hard as nails, did some excellent things offensively, turned it over and cost us a goal and then spoiled two Geelong players in the last 15 seconds to win us the match.

Its a real roller coaster ride with the Gilbo! He provides that extra defensive cover with his go go gadget arms.

Agree with Doc, good night for the maligned.

Stand up Jarryn Geary, Sammy Gilbert, Luke Delaney, Jimmy Webster and Dylan Roberton.

What, on paper, appeared a flimsy defence stood tall and fought like tigers last night. No doubt a competitive midfield helped their cause greatly but their desperate, but considered, team and individual actions where top notch. Watch the relay of the last quarter time and time again - Webster and Gilbo running back into packs to make spoils was the signature of the group.

There's no denying his last second spoil saved us the game. It was very nice work

Only 11 disposals as a loose man in defence. Cost us a couple of goals with turnovers.

BUT

Set up some attacks with good play and good passes AND that fist in the last 5 seconds on Bartel might have saved the game.

LIke Gears, to me he's not the future and I want to seem him get phased out in the next couple of years. He's such a whirlwind type of player with the long arms and legs going everywhere when at top speed that anything can happen - the brilliant to the ridiculous - he's an entertainment machine. Carlisle will give us the height in the back next year we've been missing that should mean we need less cover back there.

Gilbert seemed to matched up with Stanley and Smith when they were forward it seemed to me

To me it looked as though Roo was the loose in the last quarter

Exactly Bluthy its heart in the mouth stuff every time he kicks the ball, but you have to give him A for effort he never stops trying. That kick that flipped over Taylors head in the last was Gilbert at his best. If he could just elimate his glaring errors he would be a crowd favourite!

Gilbo started the year quite well. Then hit a poor stretch and has returned to good stretch again.

11 possessions and clanger city is hardly a good game.

yeah i think with gilbo we have to accept the bad with the good. his disposal is 50/50 at best, but hes willing to take the game on. love him or hate him is bloody good fun to watch as he keeps the relationship on its toes.

Learned it from Roo. Check out the last Billings goal against Dogs last year in round 6.

Though his role was very defensive this week.

But yes that goal from his short kick turn over after takinga mark was not good!

I love Sammy and Jack.

Jack's goal won us the game and Sammy's punch saved it for us.

Everyone used to to think that the dribble kicks along the ground that went around corners were flukes until everyone started doing it. Might become the new weapon.
It's also about time a bounce went our way (not that I'm still bitter about 09 & 10).
