Well Im shocked to the core to be reading this. Let me guess we will get one in about three years time and be sent to Budapest on a Monday night for games to promote it.

Re: St Kilda applies for a Womens Football team
Didn't even know they had submitted for a team. The AFL page itself seems to make special reference to us (being 'unlucky' that is), surely a much more high profile bid than others who missed out (or were granted).St Chris wrote:We missed out. Meh. Lets see how it goes.

Disappointing to hear we've missed out. Hopefully the league will want to expand by the end of 2017 and we can find a way of entering a team then.

Re: St Kilda applies for a Womens Football team
Its a disappointing outcome for various reasons. I understand from our proposal that it would have brought extra funding/resources which could be used across both the men's and women's teams. Hopefully we will get a team in in 2018.

Completes a great quinella for the week with shelving our stand-alone VFL team. Still I'm sure we did our best but were overlooked because we don't have the money as a result of being shoehorned into Etihad by the AFL.
In the meantime, like every other St Kilda supporter, I'll just have to find another team to barrack for in the women's comp.

Has been idicated that it is a possibility to field a team in 2018. However the huge disadvantage to that is that the existing 8 teams will have signed up all the best talent, incuding importnatly the older girls.Sainternist wrote:Disappointing to hear we've missed out. Are we now actually still going to go back to Moorabbin? No VFL side, no woman's side. A lot of money to spend. mmmm?Hemi Baxter wrote:Completes a great quinella for the week with shelving our stand-alone VFL team. It's pleasing that two teams with a small supporter base and low profile such as the Pies and Blues got a gig. They really need a higher profile and more AFL money

Re: St Kilda applies for a Womens Football team
How can the AFL ignore the fastest growing female player demographic, the bayside region? Surely Collingwood would cover the northern suburbs demographic. How on earth did Carlscum get a gig? Lowest female membership in the AFL, no success for 16 years, a cheating, basket case of a club. It's clearly a case of who you know, not what you can offer. Disgraceful decision. When we do get a licence, we'll be behind the 8 ball in terms of funding, sponsors, members, players, etc. Good grief, the AFL bends us over again.

Re: St Kilda applies for a Womens Football team
I think the club were smart enough to know that this was a magic opportunity that would have significantly benefited both women's footy in the area as well as our men's team. The club put up a great bid, but I think the successful clubs have just had a great boost to our detriment.

Re: St Kilda applies for a Womens Football team
We put in a terrific application, that much we know. But we were very late coming to the party.
That's why Melbourne and the Bulldogs edged us out. And Carlton and Collingwood just had to show up to get their teams approved.
It's disappointing but at least we're a shoe-in for the expansion phase.

Mike FitzCarlton can now f*** off and resign. The prick has used his power to once again corrupt the process. Typical AFL. They can't help themselves.Jacks Back wrote:I wonder who the afl chairman used to play for? mmmm?White Winmar wrote:How can the AFL ignore the fastest growing female player demographic, the bayside region? I'm not that passionate about the WAFL (Women's AFL), but I just like a fair process. I know that's dreamland stuff

I'm a bit behind in this but how did melb and the doggies get a license?
We had the first female assist coach. Had the first women's mascot. Plus we are in the hub were most of the players would be plucked from makes no sense to me.

Our CEO's track record fills me with pride and excitement.
No stand alone VFL team.
No women's team.
No return to the Junction Oval.
At least we have Sunday night ass-end of the weekend games to look forward to.

Re: St Kilda applies for a Womens Football team
Or not follow it at all until the Saints put a team in it? There's a heck of a lot of good sports - women and mens that are worth our while. i honestly don't care about this league at all to be honest. not enough hours in the day to care about everything.Hemi Baxter wrote:Completes a great quinella for the week with shelving our stand-alone VFL team. They got in first, otherwise I'm sure the Bulldogs in particular wouldn't have got a look in.ROLS-LEE wrote:I'm a bit behind in this but how did melb and the doggies get a license?

Re: St Kilda applies for a Womens Football team
Not sure how I feel about St Kilda missing out on a liscense.
Not sure how I feel about watching womens football. The only time I saw a girls match it was a pretty scrappy standard, about under 12's standard.
This could be a disaster, and a burden for the clubs involved. Alternately the AFL may choose to support and promote those clubs with a womens afiliation - a bit like the wa they support the Queensland and Sydney teams.

No big loss missing out. Womens football will be the biggest flop and won't last.
