Geary
For all of those Geary baggers, from the club website today :
"Geary adds Betts to 2016 scalps
A week after recording the highest pressure factor reading for Round 10, St Kilda landed at the other end of the spectrum on the weekend - ranked No. 18. The Saints inability to pressure the Crows ball carriers made the defenders’ jobs even more difficult against the premier attacking side in the competition. That reality made Jarryn Geary’s performance on Eddie Betts even more impressive, given how many opportunities the Crows had. Betts, fresh off a five-goal dazzling performance against GWS, was worn like a glove by Geary across the full 120 minutes. The All Australian small forward, who is universally regarded as the best small forward in the game at the minute, was restricted to just one goal from 11 touches and had next to no impact on the game. Richardson praised the small defender post-game, indicating that on a day where the Saints were beaten, Geary was not.'
Rioli, Betts, Fasolo, Harvey et al.....has he had his colours lowered this year?

Re: Geary
Geary has been good in his lock down role no doubts.
I dont know if it was Geary, Savage or just nobody in particular but who the hell was meant to be on Toby Greene against GWS? He absolute ran riot. He had 31 disposals and kicked 4.3 playing as a small fwd.

Don't care.
His turnovers and silly kicks result in rebound goals.

Re: Geary
He was very good.
I feel like his disposal has tidied up a little bit over the last month. What do ppl think?

Re: Geary
The type of player I've always loved ,gives everything he's got and more for his Club, meaning us members and most of all his teammates. As has been mentioned before the sort of bloke you've be very pleased to have beside you in the trenches. If some of the lovely disposal blokes had his never say die courage and attack on the ball and opposing players we wouldn't have these losses like WC and the Crows. Will go down with the likes of Bakes as one of the toughest Saints of all times. More power to the Gears, give 'em hell matey.
Please let me live long enough to see it happen.

It's a lot easier to play a great defensive game then a good offensive game...firthy wrote:The type of player I've always loved ,gives everything he's got and more for his Club, meaning us members and most of all his teammates. That's why a Nick Riewoldt is worth more than a Harry Taylor or any other elite defender.
The comparison with Steven Baker is a good one, Bakes was always one of my favs though I don't remember him experiencing the same level of scrutiny over his game that Gears has got from the fan base this season.
I'd be interested in you naming the players that don't have the same "never say die courage and attack" on the ball as you put it.

clearly 5 votes
Betts probably should have kicked 8 with that sort of service....
LeCras only got Geary late... in the training drill through the middle ... section of the game
Toby Greene was on Jimmy Webster

Re: Geary
I tried to watch the GWS replay last night and basically noone was on Greene. He was running amok and didnt seem to have an opponent. Webster was probably off screen the whole time.BigMart wrote:clearly 5 votes

Re: Geary
Yes the only free man playing in StKilda games this has been from the opposition. In many games the opposition has played a free man in defense and it has normally hurt us badly. In the GWS game it was Greene.Con Gorozidis wrote:I tried to watch the GWS replay last night and basically noone was on Greene. He was running amok and didnt seem to have an opponent. I could never understand the bagging of Geary. He's been an extremely serviceable player.

Re: Geary
Let's put matters into perspective, hey?
In the absence of Fisher, Goddard going down and Dempster playing injured and restricted the Adelaide "talls" had a field day - look at the goal kicking list.
So the ball was rarely at ground level - and given Jenkins and Walker I do not imagine that Betts would have been the "go to" option in attack.

Makes absolute sense actually, Doc. Two of our more experienced on-field leaders. Gears to toss the coin though.
