Very predictable from the loyal cheerleaders who tow etc...
I posted this on another thread before I came here
"be prepared Con. I bet you there'll be some on here (and in match committee) arguing for Gilbo to stay in the side even after what he dished up today"
Con: "Gilbert was hopeless. It's not 2009-2010 (no one realises that but me) You reckon he played alright? You're a fan boi! You're a suck. You're an apologist for the club!!!"
St Kilda loses:

He was as influential as a point post again today unfortunately.

"Don't argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience."
For us to keep improving we need to find replacements that are an upgrade on players such as Gilbo. He has been poor this year & today was no different.

He was good v Norf and not bad v Collingwood although Collingwood clearly werent trying.
He was also ok v Hawks and Port.
I call it as I see it which is more than I can say for you.
He had two stinkers in a row. So I called it. Sorry I mentioned it. I didn't know it was Nth Korea and all dissent was to be ridiculed and bullied.

Ok. Out of fear of being 'disappeared' I will apologise.
I have spoken outside the company line.
The dear leader prefers propaganda rather than reality.
I will now only say what is dictated form above. I will not show dissent at all.
The following is a statement from the bottom of my heart:
Gilbo is a great versatile tall midfielder. Can go fwd can go back. One of the AFL's elite. Easily top 50 in the comp.
Gun. Allowed a couple of bad games because he has bank loads of credits from all his great games.
The independent ranking and rating sites are all WRONG because they dont understand all those intangibles that Gilbo brings.
In fact - he is the barometer of our side. If he is up and going then we are hard to beat.
I get why this is frustrating for Con, it's like that episode of the Simpsons when Krusty bets all of his money against the Harlem Globetrotters and he's just yelling at the General's player to take the ball "HE'S SPINNING THE BALL ON HIS FINGER! JUST TAKE IT, TAKE THE BALL".
It's like you're watching something, it's right there in front of you plain for everyone to see... And some people just don't want to see it, don't want to acknowledge it. They just outright refuse.
The rationalisations appear... "You're singling him out, he did these things well, he has experience (man do I love that one), he tries so hard, there were so many worse performers...
You try to reason with those involved... But you can't because the arguments aren't based on reason. It's some type of emotional attachment... I like him so therefore he must be playing well.
It gets frustrating.
Then to top it off, once every 4-5 games said player plays a good one and these ppl lose their minds. We get the inevitable "hang your head in shame Gilbert detractors" thread and the cycle goes.
Gilbert isn't the first player this has happened to and he won't be the last...
The problem is that whilst these under performing senior players are gifted games that get us nothing, other players that could develop into better players are deprived and ultimately fail because they only get one or 2 games to show what they can do.
Tom Lee is pbly an example of a guy whose career is online, would watch that performance and think... "Yep that guy is regularly getting games ahead of me with performances like that" and he'll pbly drop his head just a bit more.
Acres, Sinclair, Lonie, Eli, Lee, Goddard, Holmes, Pierce are pbly all worth more than what see saw from Gilbert today and what we see from him regularly...
It was an aspect of RL's coaching that I couldn't stand... Watters' to a degree too and whilst Richo has made changes, there are some concerning signs RE his team selection.

Gilbo has a fair 6/10 game - Second coming of James Hird. AFL Elite champion.
Gilbo has a 2 or 3/10 shocker - Pretend it didnt happen. If someone mentions it - then point to some middling game in the past and claim he was BOG (in the hope noone can remember that far back).
Any dissent from company line is met with personal abuse aimed at dissenter and chest beating of how great a supporter people who follow the company line are.

I can't see how we improve hanging on to our older guys for the next 2 years.
It won't be the end of an era if Gilbo hangs up the boots. The opposite is true and I think we'll start climbing the ladder ONLY when we play more of our younger, faster, hungrier and more skilful players
We have Demspter and Fisher doing the hard work down back taking on the monsters. Gilbert is given the easiest role in footy. + 1 loose man down back and unaccountable midfielder. He is 29 years old - which should be his peak. And he is putting in regular games where he is simply not trying at all. Not even making a token effort and not going anywhere near the ball for 4 quarters.
Yet somehow I am a peanut for even daring to bring it up on here? Is there some reason why he gets special treatment? If so what is it? I must have missed the memo.
Or does he have infinite credits in the bank earnt in 2009 & 2010?
So he just gets picked automatically every single week until he has saved up enough superannuation and is happy to move on?

How much influence do some of our senior players have with team selection? I'm not just talking about formally with perhaps the captain on match committee but also with general planning and discussions with line coaches or assistant coaches.
So when the conversations come up during meetings as to who will play their role it's easy to keep thinking about the older players as central to the game plan. Imho, the coaches need to build more trust in our youth and embrace the upside - not the status quo
