Probably the most average player I've ever seen play for the Saints, so to have a go at the guy that played you (ahead of other obvious talents such as Steven and Armo) in a couple of GF's no less is a very low act.

Pretty sure Ross's future is just a tad more secure than Eddy's.

Eddy was a hack, a GOP at his absolute best, but playing him with a broken bone at 50% capacity was one of the dumbest coaching decisions I can recall. His 100% was poor. His 50% was atrocious.

The Lyon apologists can spin this one or explain it away as much as they like but this was plain stupid.

Remember Eddie having a shot at goal in the last quarter of the 2010 grand final from the 50m arc and thinking to myself at the time that he had no chance. Well he hit the post quite high up. I think if that had gone thru we may have won. Like everything else the Gods conspired against us. It was definitely one that got away from us. Lyon loved him up to that point. Maybe Eddie slagged him off.

Sometimes you play guys like Stevie J or Nat Fyfe in finals if they're not 100%, but why did Ross play Eddy?

Ross Lyon basically did what he does best...sacrifice his players instead of taking responsibility for a loss in a grand final. I can't recall Ross ever saying; "I stuffed up with team selection!"

He would have been one of the most unlikely heroes in a GF since ummm...Shane Ellen *cough*

Wow, that would have been something though. Eddy kicking a long goal and then Milne snaffling one after getting an even bounce. The other Eddie and Mick Malthouse would have had egg all over their faces.

I assume he nominated for the draft & rookie draft and the other 17 clubs also didn't draft him. Why not be pissed off with them as well?

One thing I have never understood is why Saints fans/forums seem to pretend 2010 GF2 never happened.
This was an actual GF with an actual flag on the line and we totally sucked. We cant pretend it didn't happen. You cant sweep it under the carpet.
The common belief/excuse seems to be 'oh we were tired'. The reality is Lyon was completely out coached. Whatever happened in those 7 days mentally and physically was an abject failure.

Matlhouse was no genius and I still dont think Collingwood were actually that good. They had a few hacks in that side. But Malthouse completely out coached Lyon. It is an inescapable fact. I think it is a bit of a myth that Collingwood were a great side. They had guys like Toovey, Reid, Wellingham, Macaffer, Blair, Dawes. Hardly Don Bradman's Invincibles were they.

I really don't think that's the case... As has been pointed out, he was never a dominant player and as you said 17 other clubs overlooked him too.
