Always thought he was a dirty player..

Physical stature, running ability, solid disposal by foot etc...liking Eli's progress, weather he can keep improving and become a very good afl player will depend on lots of factors, luck with injuries being one of them. I'm positive he can be in our best 22 in the next couple of years.

I would think that that was nearly a certainty. A given imho.

McCartin is clearly a better player than Patton and Boyd. I am convinced of this.

If I might chime in Bigmart.
I reckon Paddy has old school footy nous. Knowing where to lead, how to position himself. More like a Lockett.
I haven't seen that in Boyd. in fact if wasn't the height he is I doubt he'd be a 7 million dollar man.
Picture him at 193cm. Pay 7 mill ?

The last quarter was a mirror of last week’s victory. The Zebras piled on six unanswered goals. The pressure applied was too much for Collingwood.

Dennis-Lane led by example; applied pressure, forced the turnover and kicked a goal.

Patrick McCartin booted two of the six majors, one coming through traffic and snapping around the body. The Sandringham fans were delighted.

Templeton finished with 33 disposals, closely followed by Answerth with 30 and Shenton 21.

Confidence was evident from the backline through to the forwards and Sandringham ran out 16. 18. 114 to 7. 5. 47 victors.

Coach Paul Hudson was pleased with how the team finished strongly.

“We won three out of four quarters, but pretty clinical in the last which was pleasing”, said Hudson.

Hudson also praised his sides strong defense keeping Collingwood to less than eight goals.

“The whole defense was good to be honest, keeping them to under eight goals, which is something we prided ourselves on”.

Next week Sandringham faces top of the ladder Casey Scorpions at Trevor Barker Oval at 2pm in a matchup the Zebras will go into with plenty of confidence.

Agree with howlin wolf. Patton and Boyd rely almost 100% on the fact that they are just big. Massive really. And they were humungous in the juniors. When they get in the AFL and have to go against good defenders who they cant simply rag doll out of the way- Patton and Boyd look lost. Paddy seems a smarter kind of old school footballer who knows how to time his leads.

No doubt Boyd and Patton will be heavily coached and will improve - but they still look a little clueless out there. Paddy is kind of the opposite. He knows what to do and probably doesnt need much coaching in making his leads etc - he is just physically not as imposing and needs time to get fitter and stronger.

My basic rationale is it is easier to get physically fit than to learn how to play footy. That's why I think Paddy has a higher % chance of being good than those other two units.

Yes

But he is that size? No good saying if he wasn't that size...

May as well say if Sandilands wasn't 211 he'd be no good... He is

Boyd, when he gains man strength will be a bit like Tom Hawkins... As will Patton

I never mention another fwd in the same breath as Tony... He was a freak of size and power...most men that big are as slow as treacle... He was not!

Paddy
If he gets his tank and and body up to scratch

Good points regardin McCartin and I agree. Very happy we have him and would still take him if we had the choice.

McCartin has grown, 195cm, which is big enough as he plays taller than that anyway, as seen by the way he launches. Luckily enough he still moves like a big bodied mid. Great off the deck, great by hand and foot, seen him pirouette on a dime (collingwood second? game) to break a tackle. Has a big noggin and is big boned in general so he doesn't actually look that tall, as opposed to Roo who standing by himself looks much taller than 193. Will definitely be a better player than Boyd and Patton, if he can get his tank up. The only reason you'd want a key forward to be bigger than 195-198 is if you want him as a forward ruck. He's a giant cat is McCartin, size will be his asset.

Also he's humble and has Roo to learn off so the other guys don't have a chance

Patton is 23 already. He would want to get a wriggle on to catch up to Hawkins. Patton is looking closer to Vickery at this point in time.

Boyd - jury still out on him. He is only 20. So he may well end up going down the Hawkins path. Very early days.

I see Paddy more like a Josh Kennedy style/quality player.
