Hang on. Isn't the whole point of Richo that he is good with young players?

It is Lyon with the bad reputation for developing young players - not Richo? Thats what I thought anyway.

In fairness Port were excellent in 2014 when Richo had already left. Port look like a one season wonder.

But gee whizz - A strong Sandy side has to say something. I think it actually says a lot. We know that Geelong and the Hawks had good VFL sides for years.

I thought Eli Templeton was BOG by a mile. McCartin needs to be more selfish. Key forwards are there to kick goals. He didnt seem to get big numbers but made Çollingwood players think twice when he was around.

It's all in your perception- Pies supporters behind me thought Witts was awful
And he wasn't taking on Holmesy- after a couple of weeks where the ruck was mainly Holmes and Pierce-this week the focus was Longer and Pierce we ith Jason more forward

Before this season started I had Eli as a 30% chance of making it in the AFL. I have now revised that up to 70%.
Having a good year and has definitely improved his all-round game.

Stand Alone teams .... Expensive, and as soon as a few injuries hit... They are useless. And that hinders development ... Kids need to developed into winners, with professional habits.

You need 6-8 state league gun non listed players who keep the seconds competitive regardless of AFL injuries

While Box Hill still sit atop the VFL ladder - then it is definitely too early to be writing the Hawks off.

Eli is a great VFL player but he isn't an AFL player.
He has no tricks.
VFL he can just run around and get the ball. AFL his disposal is average, his pace is average, he is average

So quick to write a young fella off. He's 20 and has played 14 games. Why do people expect young fellas to be instant consistent AFL level players? He needs time to develop. Shows promise.

I wouldn't write Eli off just yet eit. I thought he showed plenty in his first year. Good to know there's some kids going ok in the twos. The Pies on the other hand are in trouble. Seniors are crap and there's nothing in the VFL to get excited about.

Did Cloke play for them?

So he can't even get a game in the seconds. Geez he's gone down hill.

You could be right. He is certainly not going to be a star. But he is a neat kind of player and he is quite tough. He can tackle so that is why the coach likes him.
But for a 22nd player picked kind of guy like a Hartung or a Rory Laird kind of player I think he has a future. As long as he can tackle he kick he has a chance.

This indicates our depth is a LOT better than those two clubs.

Young guys like Paddy, Eli, Pierce, Murdoch would be getting games at other clubs.

The fact that White, Rice and Coughlan also look good already is a huge positive for the club.

With big bodies like Billy, Shenton, Lee and Delaney running around the VFL - Sandy are going to be hard to beat this year.

If we get injuries to older guys like Geary/Gilbo/Fisher/Montagna/Dempster I don't think we really lose anything. We have guys who can come in and do a job. I dont think that has been the case up until now.
Probably has quite a bit to do with injuries, we have barely any, the pies are decimated.

I doubt Eli, Pierce & Murdoch would get a regular game at other clubs.

What I like about Eli is he won't get to the end of his career and be wondering. He goes out there and gives it his all, runs his guts out and has great energy. If he is not good enough or there isn't a spot for him then so be it, but it won't be due to lack of effort. I think what he needs to do is get his fitness up to elite and become that Daisy Thomas type who just runs up and down the wings all day linking up play.

AFL report- gives sandy the win- But Pies didn't play 8-)
St Kilda
State league affiliate: Sandringham (VFL)
This weekend: Collingwood v Sandringham - Saturday May 7, 4.50pm, Holden Centre

Small forward Eli Templeton collected a team-high 33 disposals and kicked a goal in his team’s 67-point victory over Collingwood.

Paddy McCartin was a focal point in attack and bagged two clever goals in the win. The 2014 No.1 draft pick was left out of the senior side following strong performances from Membrey and Bruce, but will be hoping to earn a recall.

Rebounding defender Cameron Shenton played further up the ground and booted three goals to go along with his 21 touches.

I like what I've seen from Eli...

He's got some pace, can run a bit and his disposal is decent. He might just be the type of player that takes a few seasons longer to figure out how to get his hands on the pill in the AFL. The fact that his VFL has improved markedly is a good sign.

I'm happy for now for him to force his way into the team on merit and get dropped if his form doesn't hold up... See what he can develop into

I agree totally. Last night was a great advertisement for us retaining the affiliation with Sandy. All 8 of the Sandy players - including the young lad who was 23rd player- made excellent contributions. As BigMart says, our players learn to win in senior competition .Paul Hudson ensures our boys play where we want them to. Blokes returning from injury such Payne and NOK - and hopefully Freeman next week - can come back via the Development team rather than being rushed in though VFL seniors. Furthermore, we won't always be lucky with injuries. If we were standalone in those circumstances , we would be scrambling for top ups, who could not possibly be of the quality of the Sandy lads.
Most of all, last night was a great advertisement of how hopeless the Pies are !

I see a lot of Joey Montagna in Eli. Physical stature, running ability, solid disposal by foot etc...liking Eli's progress, weather he can keep improving and become a very good afl player will depend on lots of factors, luck with injuries being one of them. I'm positive he can be in our best 22 in the next couple of years.
