Eli getting stacks of it
Paddy no goals I think but is such a focal point that pies are panicing when kicked to him. He's got a nice set shot technique but always seems to be just a bit off with his aim.
Longer I thought did a bit better that qtr.
Pierce stepped it up in the ruck - he's a bit like Hickey - looks lost playing forward but thrives on ball where he can use his athleticism.
Murdoch did ok - his kicking is a bit inconsistent like Webster with that stinging left foot - it tends to be all or nothing
White looks a real good prospect - has got it all strength, marking, run, long accurate kicking, some mongrel
Dmac - did ok in the first qtr but didn't see him in the second. Needs to get more of it if he's going to push for senior selection
Rice - got more of it this qtr. Kicked long quite a bit.

Would we consider trading Longer back to Brissie for their 2nd round pick?
Or to another team desperate for a ruck like the Tigers? High 2nd rounder ~ pick 22?

Collingwood's list looking putrid.
I guess they may have a few more injuries than us.. but we have 2 emergencies for tommorrow's game (Lonie, Goddard) and still far more likely AFL players in this game... Pierce and Longer can play AFL, Templeton is building toward it (one more per-season IMO), Murdoch still a chance after injury set him back last year... Brendon White a big shot in 1-2 years... McKenzie still a chance too.. and big Paddy has shown enough to suggest that he is also just one pre-season away...
Really have npt seen any AFL looking players for Pies...

Really high quality stream for VFL. Nice facilities too, by the look of it. It would be nice to have their money for sure!saintbrat wrote:You offering to fund? The Fireman wrote:whay cant the Saints stream games ?

Great win. That last qtr they put on amazing pressure and tackled heaps and tried to take the game on at every opportunity - very much in the saints style.
Paddy - I thought he was BOG - pies just didn't know how to deal with him - his leading in the first half was great with sticky hands. Just needs to keep developing his goals shots - maybe as he gets fitter he will be more composed
Tommy Lee - Really good game - nice marking, lovely kicking (couple of howlers), looking assured on the last line of defence
Eli - great game, hard gut running throughout
Curren - was ok but not his normal ball magnet self today
Shenton - got on the end of it a lot
Murdoch - good penetration from the back with his kicking - seems to be developing now when he looked a bit stagnent for a while
White - tired in the second half but was great early
Rice - something about this kid I really like - always looks composed and classy with good hands. I'm looking forward to seeing how he develops with a better physique.
Mckenzie - didn't get a huge amount of the footy
Longer - seems to be struggling a bit, sometimes it can be hard for the big bodied rucks to really show case themselves in the 2's but he was trying
Pierce - did well when he went into the ruck
Holmes - did ok when he did a bit of rucking at the end
Coughlan - looked good, used his height with marking and used the ball pretty well
Its really encouraging to see so many players developing nicely in the reserves. Hopefully its going to be a real dog fight for senior spots soon

Pierce is certainly coming along very nicely. Last season I thought he looked liked he was not going to make it. This year he has really stepped up. Importantly e is playing well even when no rucking.
In terms of overall game he looked a lot better than Longer today.

Paddy looked fantastic. I'm no expert but I still find it odd that Boyd was such a stand-out number 1 pick and attracted a huge contract, yet Paddy was considered a surprising pick 1.

Why a surprising Pick 1? While different people ranked Petracca and Paddy different virtually all had them as the No 1 and 2 picks.saint-stu wrote:Paddy looked fantastic. Personally I always thought Boyd would struggle to be elite as he seem to havea game that was basically built on marking alone. The cap on interchange has only made it harder on him.

Love the look of Kade Ainswerth, he has so much composure and uses the ball beautifully. He was BOG in the TAC cup grand final last year with Oakleigh chargers. I would certainly like to pick him up either with a late pick or rookie list.
Kryemborg also has some tricks but he's 22 so it's more of a risk, plus he looks like a medium half forward only and we have a few of those on our list already

Forgot Delaney - he did some brutal don't argues today and his disposal was good. But its hard to see how he can get back in the ones with Carlisle, Goddard, Lee, Roberton, Coughlan all as young tall back options.

I thought Delaney looked disinterested at times. May have been camera angle but didn't seem to chase the contest at all. Really likes Lee's intercept marking and precise long delivery.Bluthy wrote:Forgot Delaney - he did some brutal don't argues today and his disposal was good. Re: VFL Rd 5 Sandringham vs Pies Sat 7th -Live STREAM
There is no other way to look at this except to be very positive. Sandy pantsed Richmond last week and pantsed the Pies this week.
This indicates our depth is a LOT better than those two clubs.
Young guys like Paddy, Eli, Pierce, Murdoch would be getting games at other clubs.
The fact that White, Rice and Coughlan also look good already is a huge positive for the club.
With big bodies like Billy, Shenton, Lee and Delaney running around the VFL - Sandy are going to be hard to beat this year.
If we get injuries to older guys like Geary/Gilbo/Fisher/Montagna/Dempster I don't think we really lose anything. We have guys who can come in and do a job. I dont think that has been the case up until now.

Richo proving to be the great developer of younger players that he was cracked up to be .
