Regardless of how true this is, I still have a fair idea we'd be keen on getting him.

Re: Dyson!!!!!
I though the rumour/conspiracy theory was that the Bombers have encouraged him to sue so they can pay him more money outside the salary cap and leave room in their cap to target more players?
Anyway, isnt he contracted until 2020?

Yes I know there has been talk about contracts being set aside but I seriously doubt this. I would say the chances of the Saints getting Heppell are very very low.
I notice stonecold doesnt say 'locked in' but says 'locked in on'.
The latter merely means we have made enquiries with his manager. Probably one phone call.

By the sounds of it all, he wants to GTFO of Esssendon though. Anyway, this should all be starting to unfold soon enough.Con Gorozidis wrote:I though the rumour/conspiracy theory was that the Bombers have encouraged him to sue so they can pay him more money outside the salary cap and leave room in their cap to target more players?

Just imagine we had both Heppell and Carlisle on the same team. Essendon would be filthy at us!

Re: Dyson!!!!!
You may, but people in the know state that any of the banned players can set aside their contracts and be FA's.Con Gorozidis wrote:

Getting him to actually sign on with us is a whole other story though. But as a FA that would have huge appeal as we do not have to trade and lose picks or players.
If the club could FA him and say land Gaff in a trade as well then you could start eyeing off finals in 2017 now.
Those are two very big IF's though.

Re: Dyson!!!!!
If Heppell chooses to leave, I think we could look attractive as his best destination, given our exciting list & what we can easily pay him.
However, Essendon aren't as in bad shape as people think, if they keep all or at least the majority of the suspended 12. I'd rather be an Essendon supporter than a Carlton, Richmond, Collingwood or Brisbane supporter at the moment. Worsfold is doing a good job with the top ups. Daniher is a gun and if they get the 12 back they will immediately be in finals contention next year. They were incompetently coached by Hird despite all the other worries.
That may compel Heppel to stay. But given the shoddy way he has been treated by his Club, he should give them the flick. He hasn't appeared convincing in his media role when speaking about Essendon as an Essendon player.
I reckon if he chooses to go and there's a good chance of that, we'd be in a great position to grab him.

Re: Dyson!!!!!
He is exactly what we need - an elite big-bodied inside/outside midfielder in his early 20s. We should be doing everything possible to get him. After last year I wouldn't have thought we'd be too keen on trading with Essendon again...I take it Essendon would receive FA compo if he walked? If that ends up being a top 5 pick I think Heppell wouldn't feel like he's wronged the club.
Would make for a handy potential 22 for 2017
B: Dempster, Goddard, Roberton
HB: Savage, Carlisle, Webster
C: Riewoldt, Armitage, Acres
HF: Billings, Bruce, Weller
F: Lonie, McCartin, Membrey
Foll: Hickey, Steven, Heppell
Int: Ross, Montagna, Dunstan, Newnes
Fringe: Sinclair, Gilbert, Geary, Gresham, Minchington, Longer, McKenzie, Freeman
Absolutely no reason that team wouldn't play finals.

Sorry, that is harsh. I apologise profusely.
Regardless of how Essendon's list looks for 2017, they injected these players with unknown substances, caused 3 years of heartache, gave them 12 months of sitting on the sidelines, and god knows what future implications. If these 12 players had a shred of integrity they'd leave that place in their dust and move to greener pastures.
It staggers me that players will stay having been through the last 4 years. I would hold a grudge till the day I died....

Someone like Hooker ignoring big offers and re-signing for another 20 years or so, and almost implying he owes it to the Bombers to help them back up to the top - unbelievable

Re: Dyson!!!!!
Why would he stick around at a club which treated him like they did, and which is very unlikely to win a flag in the next 5-6 years? Why not join Victoria's most exciting up and coming team and play for the Saints?
The rumours of Heppell leaving have been stronger than any other player, even Hooker.
Wonder if Jakey boy has been in Dyson's ear?
We would be a shot at the flag next year with Heppell, Carlisle and a free run with injuries... bit like Hawks in '08 before they had to slightly rebuild for a couple of years...
