Membrey... The new Jake Stringer?
First game this year (I think?) .. Every bit as good as Stringer has been this season. more than impressed by his work ... I think he will become our third forward going onwards. Seems hard to match up on. So much to like ..

Ah.....after one game?
Great game by Membrey today, but lets see him do well for a number of games before getting too excited.

Re: Membrey... The new Jake Stringer?
Certainly Membrey is a better bloke and harder worker on-field right now. Stringer has been drinking his own bathwater and spends most of his time trying to take speccies from behind at the moment. Stringer does have a small height advantage. But Membrey is a pretty good player for a 21 yo. Certainly worth us signing up on a new contract.

It always surprises me how young he is. Fantastic raw material, just goes about it in a workmanlike manner. Can't wait to see him string a few together.Con Gorozidis wrote:Certainly Membrey is a better bloke and harder work on-field. I like to get excited about our unproven players... Think he shows a difference to all our other forward types.. I like difference..saintsRrising wrote:Ah.....after one game?

Test for stickers is the week after the great game, opposition puts more time into him...
Think he can make it though
Watching some of the game again, he earns his goals, puts a lot of work into dragging opponents away from others.
Footy gave back to him today for that, which is nice, doesn't always

Re: Membrey... The new Jake Stringer?
The combination of a strong body, good marking and good ground skills, makes him potentially a very dangerous forward.
North Melb will be a much different story next week. Let's hope that he has another very good game.

Yep Milney, and in answer to the question posed in the title, no, not even close.Milne wrote:Not even close. Stringer is a gun and Members hasn't even cemented himself in the first team.

Better than Stringer
On this weekends performance
Stringer is a greedy individual prick who was given a bath by Scot Thompson Friday
But seriously
Membrey is going to be an important role player going fwd

Stringer is actually a really nice guy.
Gets around all his team mates.
And watching him in the rooms with his daughter after a game will melt your heart

Re: Membrey... The new Jake Stringer?
Idel third forward really as he presents a nasty match up. Could become a prolific goal-kicker.

Re: Membrey... The new Jake Stringer?
Membrey has a long way to go, and there are no guarantees that he'll make it long term. To compare him to Stringer is quite comical. Stringer is taller, more powerful, more talented....simple as that. Stringer can weave his way through traffic or burst through it. He's quick and creative.
Membrey has very few tricks, and is your typical, basic lead up forward who does not have the height to trouble tall defenders. I really hope he can become a 35 -40 goal player for us, but at his height and level of skill, he's up against it.

Re: Membrey... The new Jake Stringer?
Membrey was made to look good by the Dee's ineptitude in defence.
All we had to do yesterday was clear it from the centre and we outnumbered them about 4 to 1 up forward for some reason.
Members isn't really tall enough but has a gait like Barry Hall. Unfortunately he's not as big as Baz is though.

Re: Membrey... The new Jake Stringer?
That is good to hear, I do think he is rather cocky on the field and a bit of a front runner, but I am happy to retract my "dick" comment if he is a good dad.The_President wrote:Con Gorozidis wrote:Certainly Membrey is a better bloke and harder worker on-field right now. Agree with the first bit. Melbourne were terrible.saintspremiers wrote:Membrey was made to look good by the Dee's ineptitude in defence.

He's supposed to be the third option so he's tall enough. He's also a good link player and can play a bit further up the ground. A very good pick up considering we got him for nothing.
He's a dead eye dick in front of goals and importantly has a fantastic work ethic.
And remember he's only played 14 games so he could get a lot better.

He was OK against Footscray, but did not set the world on fire. I think he finished with about 15 touches and two goals. His work rate was good, and his intensity at the contest but that was about it.

That 4 to 1 outnumbering for some reason was a result of work rate and Richo out coaching Roos.
This performance by Members will make it harder for him in coming weeks with more attention sent his way, but that I turn will aid Bruce as double teaming will be less common.
