Freeman Again

Reports coming out tonight that Freeman has had another setback and won't play for another 1-2 weeks. The club is relieved that it is not as bad as first thought.

I'm absolutely bullish about this bloke and was happy to part with this years 2nd round pick for him.
I hope this is not a sign of things to come

Well I'll wait for confirmation of this but I said earlier I fully expected another tweak or two with this cat. Its' a long term process for him to get over his chronic condition. I feel very chilled out about Freezer (heh heh) this year. If he gets a bit of footy under his belt, whatever level that is, that's all good.

He should have played for Sandy seniors last week. They should have kept up any game time he could get after that initial big possie game for the Sandy seconds. They put him on ice and now they've put the ice on him.

I'd assume awareness is he wasn't injured but freeman made the call to pull the intensity back when things weren't feeling the way they should.

I played footy on the weekend for the first time in a decade.

The next day I was aware of my hamstrings.

And my quads, glutes, shoulders, wrists, neck, upper and lower back and of course my calves. Hooly dooly was I aware of my calves.

From my recent experience pulling a hammy you can feel heat in the muscle. I assume that's the awareness he's talking about?

I used to get sore achilles tendons, sore calves (but never had an issue with my hamstrings) ... when getting up to change the channels on the tv. That was my tv set-back.
I was a wreck before the remote control came along.

Seriously, though, I can't believe a fit, young player is suffering from chronic hamstrings. How did he get to the stage of being drafted?
His hamstrings suddenly decide to call it a day and pack it in - after enduring years of football - it makes no sense?

I really feel for the kid, his confidence must be at an all time low.

He's far too young to be thinking about retirement, so I hope he keeps his chin up, remains positive and most of all.....stay's patient!!

One day the time will come when he doesn't have to worry about them anymore and he can think back and say......I'm glad I listened to the medico's.

Have you ever done hamstring curls and when you get up you have that almost tickly type feeling in your hamstrings? Hamstring "awareness" is essentially a mixture of feeling fatigue and tightness. You can flex and extend your leg no worries but you have a general feeling in the muscle group. If you've ever done a hamstring you'll know what I'm talking about as you'd have felt it at some stage in your rehab. As Freeman was missing a game due to the bye they would have (I assume) put him through a pretty tough session to get high intensity loads into him. It just means his hamstrings weren't happy with the load so they'll drop him back to recover and build him back up. The scan was negative. It's not ideal but I'm essentially no less confident that he will be a player at the Saints.

I know that feeling... Except usually I call it "Oh crap I've strained something"....

At least he knows enough and is honest enough to report it.

This is long term here for Freeman. Really there should be limited pressure on him and our expectations should be somewhat reigned in.

It's basically just tight. Obviously he just wants it to be right so any tightness he wants to be cautious about it. Nothing unexpected. You don't do multiple laps at reasonable pace ( as he did this morning at Seaford ) if hes re injured it again. He'll get there.

I hope his hammys hold up up, but stepping up to senior level intensity levels, especially as a mid, the need to burst and burst fast from packs will test those hammys more than any VFL reserves game ever will.

So we're hiding our number 1 draft pick out of fear of what their number 2 may do, on debut?!

If that's the case, they're raising the white flag, intimating that they made the incorrect decision and selected the wrong player.

I'm certain Paddy would want to be playing and proving to everyone why he was number 1, against a much hyped number 2.

I can't accept this to be the case, and if it is the case, the whole coaching and selection committee are stuffed.
