GS played an extra man back for much of the time and it worked a lot better for GWS than for te Saints.
At centre bal ups Greene was often left standing by himself on the centrevsquare and in the middle...so if w did wina rare clearnce he was often there to easily mop up any balls knocked or kicked forward haphazardly.

Lee was one of our better players after the first quarter last week.
Melbourne have played the same way the last 5 weeks and the three NAB cup games before that. Remember we played them then. Basically in all their games the forwards for either teams didn't do a lot. It will be won or lost in the middle third. Hopefully we will have a lot of options, them not so many.
Horses for courses.
Lee dropped on merit. He came in for Roberton, a mobile defender who can play short and tall. Lee is slow, doesn't play his position (and is frequently to be seen wandering around nowhere near his zone) and makes basic defensive positioning errors. He's too weak to play on big forwards and can't keep up with anyone else. He's a good kick. He can take a mark. Not enough, not nearly enough. Play him for weeks. Give him all the confidence in the world. He won't get bigger, stronger, smarter or faster. He's a fill-in who won't be a key part of our renaissance. A fine club man to be sure. One who's needed from time to time to fill gaps.

OMG finally someone talking sense!! Lee was slaughtered by Cameron n the first half, twice in the first quarter alone Cameron led him to the ball by 20 metres! He gets caught ball watching so many times, happens in the VFL too.

No. It's a definite possibility.
Both teams are extremely inconsistent. Melbourne lost to the Top-Ups remember. And we were atrocious v GWS and the Doggies. Heck we werent really that great against Port either considering how bad Port really are.
Our A game will beat Melbourne's B game. Both sides A game is pretty equal. Just depends who turns up on Saturday. Maybe they will get ahead of themselves after their amazing winning streak of two?
I think this is one where anything could happen but I suspect the writing will be on the wall in the first ten minutes.
Rooey usually kills them so it may be fortuitous that Paddy is out as presumably he will play forward. On the other hand, if we get smashed in the middle again nothing is going to help

Yep. As a defender he's a good forward.
But we do like to hype our Toms.

And you are the dulled sniper atypical to this club. I have no idea I
i....dont know what has happened here. Trying to picture the game plan, the outs dont match the ins at all. Guessing Gilbert is moving back to backline more so this week. We better run them into the ground. Either way, if we lose just 1 tall player during the game we will be at a serious disadvantage.

Keep your scribble off the wall unless you are prepared to paint it over afterwards.

Both Lee And Paddy haven't set the world on fire and won't make any difference to the final result .
Acres vs Pettraca could be the best battle on the day and maybe why Acres has been held back to keep fresh . Saints would have penciled this game in as a good chance to win months ago and win or lose will come out and have a red hot crack at it.

What happened to our run and gun approach - running in two's, three's and four's through the centre. We were playing exciting football when we did that but we didn't do it against the dogs and GWS. I hope we can get back to that style tomorrow.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
well Richardson did harp on about 0 tackles - all three dropped recorded exactly that. Savage too, but played a good game otherwise. Joey and Dempster likewise. So it was predictable in that sense, but I agree with those that think Lee is looking worth perservering with. Unfortunately it looks like the club may see him as an interim player. Lonie needs to find the ball more so a drop will do him good, same with McCartin - no point him losing confidence in the firsts, playing as a passanger. Membrey I've always liked, but never quite clicked, and he'll be in the same boat longer term as Lee - needs to start kicking goals. Acres and Gresham yet to show anything, but need time. Neither are getting it as we keep chopping and changing. Seems like the club isn't sure on many of these players either and can't settle on any of them.
"The starting point of all achievement is desire. "
In my opinion Paddy had to be dropped. He's shown some great signs in the air but needs to work on his defensive game. His chasing was third rate last week. He'll get there, but he needs a VFL refresh. Membrey deserves his chance.
Lee is a little stiff but he was always going to be backup until one of Roberton or Goddard were ready to go. Given Lee has gone out and no defender of note has come in, I'd expect Montagna to be a late out replaced by Goddard.
