Re: Team v Dees
Disappointed with the team as selected. Dropping Lee and McCartin, two talls, and bringing no talls in. Not clever selection.
Lee was one of our better players after the first quarter last week.

Good question. Certainly wasn't Lee or McCartin's job but those two tore us up.gone fission wrote:Who the hell played on Greene & Shaw last week?
The coaching panel should be sent back to Sandy this week.
Where were Weller and Geary while these two were carving us up?
Re: Team v Dees
Fast track and Lee and Paddy not quite up to AFL speed yet but both are tracking well.
Lonie may have lost his mojo for now but will be back soon.

only took 1 intercept mark (4 in total)Impatient Sainter wrote:Surprised Lee was dropped. I thought we were looking to the future? Was he dropped because he had no tackles last week? If so that's ridiculous given the intercept marking and kicking strengths he provides.

Lee had 3 x Rebound 50s. Dempster and Gilbert 2 each and Geary only 1.chook23 wrote:only took 1 intercept mark (4 in total)Impatient Sainter wrote:Surprised Lee was dropped. re greene that is why head to head in midfield ......
stats are so over rated in this regard
ie steven played well because he had 30 ....but his opposite had 30 as well

Re: Team v Dees
Lee has been shafted. We have brought in three fringe players, although Blacres and Gresh could be future stars.
Tatts Membrey is just a fill in until we get some good FA's into the side over the next few years.

Dempster specialises in kicking the ball out on the full. He's the best in the AFL at it

Did you watch the game last week chook?chook23 wrote:Con Gorozidis wrote:Good question. Certainly wasn't Lee or McCartin's job but those two tore us up.gone fission wrote:Who the hell played on Greene & Shaw last week?

Greene played mainly as a permanent forward - hence 7 shots on goal & 5 goal assists.
Savage was responsible for him at times > ZERO tackles from him too if we are dropping players on that basis.

Re: Team v Dees
I thought Lee looked better as the game went on last week, and I expected him to be settled as part of our backline, especially seeing Fisher looks like an old bloke running around- Goddard should be in there by now..then again I don't think Richo has a clue so I'm not surprised. Don't know how Longer got a gig as an emergency- he looked woeful against the Dogs in the VFL- Pierce looked 200% better.
Our midfield got slammed against GWS and had zero defensive impact, and really are an ordinary unit- can't play Dunstan and Ross in the same outfit. Paddy was a passenger against GWS as was Lonie, so probably expected them to be dropped. I guess Gresham would do no worse than Lonie right now. What I don't want to see, is Roo being our best player- we need a lot of the middle rung players to stand up.

Greene played as a small fwd and killed us.
I think what chook was trying to say was that Steven, Ross, Newnes and Armo racked up high stats but they weren't really very effective in helping us actually kick goals/win the game.
Here are the coaches votes:
ST KILDA v GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY
10 Toby Greene (GWS)
8 Tom Scully (GWS)
3 Stephen Coniglio (GWS)
3 Ryan Griffen (GWS)
2 Jeremy Cameron (GWS)
2 Nick Riewoldt (StK)
1 Heath Shaw (GWS)
1 Zac Williams (GWS)

Re: Team v Dees
Not quite sure how Lee gets dropped and Gilbert is still getting a game? Gilbert turned it over constantly and Lee needs consecutive games to gain confidence, must be shattering for him
Re: Team v Dees
Lee wasn't even on cameron for most of those goals. Piss poor selection if dropped on form. Really not happy with how the club is handling some of our players so ambiguously. Tony?? Please, some clarity to stem the rage

Heath shaw was stiff to only get 1 vote, he along with Greene absolutely shredded us:
14 marks - 3 contested
22 kicks
9 rebound 50's
7 bounces
4 inside 50's

Re: Team v Dees
As I predicted, Membrey worth a run on this smaller ground, where man-on-man is a key factor.
Acres for a lacklustre Lonie was always on.
Lee has been reasonable and getting better with a few games under his belt. Did not deserve to be dropped.
McCartin - poor delivery has certainly not been helping him. His future awaits.
Gresham is a a punt - he seems a bit slow to me.
Montagna - looked very doubtful to me. Not sure that he will play.

Re: Team v Dees
Agree. I ask again. Who was accountable for Shaw and Greene and why weren't they held accountable? Surely it wasnt Lee's job to look after these two. Minch was destroyed by Shaw. Why wasn't Weller (or Gilbert) on him all day as a shut down fwd? And who the heck was on Greene? Geary gave us no rebound (only 1 R 50) and did stuff all for us defensively. He certainly didn't curtail Greene in any way. What the hell was Gilbert doing? He continues to play as unaccountable midfielder. He just plays as a loose man these days apparently, which would be fine but he cant kick so what is the point of getting him loose all day?gone fission wrote:Heath shaw was stiff to only get 1 vote, he along with Greene absolutely shredded us:

Absolute shambles of a selection committee.

As Con said :
"Who was accountable for Shaw and Greene and why weren't they held accountable?"
Time for Gilbert and Geary to lift. Both have very poor kicking skills. Savage kicks well, but has poor defensive skills- needs to tighten up.
