Re: How the VFL boys went
Really looks like we have some players pushing for selection. Also not to mention Freeman's 46 possessions in the reserves. And good to see Bailey Rice is recovering well.

I'll be flat of Eli returns over Acres.
Acres at least has upside. Eli is like Clint Jones, a rockstar at VFL and a pleb against the big boys

However I think a few people learned the hard way this week in regards to writing off young kids with limited pre seasons and game time.
I'm not prepared to say Eli won't make it and I certainly hope he does.

Re: How the VFL boys went
In his first season if he had 8 touches and a goal it was a good game. That doesn't cut it any more.Dr Spaceman wrote:You may well be right.The_President wrote:I'll be flat of Eli returns over Acres.

Re: How the VFL boys went
Another one being written off before he reaches 21. Had a great first year, seriously injured last year, played round 1 and now he's a written off pleb. Looking forward to him proving you wrong. Bloody hell people want young fellas to be instant superstars.The_President wrote:In his first season if he had 8 touches and a goal it was a good game. Thanks for that Saynta.
Reading about Shenton, Hudson says, "He worked really hard to get to the edges". Does he mean get to the edge of contests to be in a position to receive the footy?

Eli is tracking very well for a 20 yr old.The_President wrote:I'll be flat of Eli returns over Acres.

It is great that he is very good at VFL level at his age and experience level..
Could easily develop like Seb Ross... i.e. at 22-23 he could well be a very good AFL player.
Writing him off already is just crazy

Looks like Hickey is ahead of Longer at this stage, wonders on playing in the firsts for either player

This. What a silly thing to say about a kid. I went to one of the Sandy practice games a few weeks ago and Eli was a standout. Also his kicking skills are much better than Acres at this stage.SuperDuper wrote:Eli is tracking very well for a 20 yr old.The_President wrote:I'll be flat of Eli returns over Acres.

Interesting to see so many players in unusual positions. It's no wonder we lost with all this experimentation. Good for the saints but I wonder how Sandringham feel about it.

Re: How the VFL boys went
hmmm, will we see Murdoch or Shenton again? Don't see it happening excluding for injuries.
Eli needs another big pre-season imo, he looks so small when he plays for the saints and plays accordingly.
Longers only hope at the moment is if we go 2 rucks, which I dont see happening if we have roo, bruce and paddy together.
It's probably not gonna happen but I want to see Acres, McKenzie and one of Goddard/Lee as regulars by the end of the season.

Gary ablett jr was average till he was 23 !
If eli can be half the player Ablett is then he'll be real good .
In red white and black from 73
Re: How the VFL boys went
Are you sure Ablett was very average
Second season
Played every game
15ppg
1.3 goals
3.5t
As a small fwd at 18/19yo
In 2004
35 goals
15ppg
4.5t
Not revolting numbers
Just comparing the to his midfield numbers looks average
