Meanwhile Tom Lynch kicks 6 and is up to 90 career goals.
Thanks Lyon you asswipe.

Don't blame Lyon. That was our shameful recruiting from 07 to 010 that has caused this. And I am sure you have stated that many times. When Kynch was at the Saints he was no good.Con Gorozidis wrote:Meanwhile Tom Lynch kicks 6 and is up to 90 career goals.

Lyon was there until 2011 and we won the spoon in 2014. Do the math.

Wayne Milera had 20 disposals and kicked a goal today.
But he is fast and skilful so heaven forbid we DO NOT want that kind of player out our club. Thank god we avoided him.
Much prefer slow crabs with ordinary skills. It's all about creating club culture you see.

And to think people on here are pulling themselves over Jaegar O'Meara.
Yay lets recruit someone else to sit in the sheds and keep Carlisle and Freeman company. Maybe they can start a boy band or something?
How about we recruit someone who actually fricking plays?

Re: McCartin - The biggest recruiting disaster of all time
We could've had plugger and Carey in the 50 tonight and they wouldn't have got a kick. Our kicking efficiency was just putrid, we went at less than 30% efficiency going into forward 50, also went one extra handball far too often when a kick was a better option. How many times McCartin, too and Bruce led and were missed by 20 meters. It must be totally deflating for a young forward

OP a disgrace. I was very happy with how he played tonight, as was everyone around me at the ground.
Second efforts all over the place. All he needs is time and a little faith. That is all.

Re: McCartin - The biggest recruiting disaster of all time
McCartin had an awful awful game, looked slow and really sloppy, felt sorry for him at times he looked like he had zero confidence. The hard thing for him is the gap between the VFL and AFL is huge and when he makes that jump to the senior side he is out of his depth at the moment, the no.1 draft tag doesn't help.
Mind you, Tom Boyd is a no.1 draft pick, a few years older and honestly I don't think he's a hell of a lot better considering the delivery he got tonight compared to Paddy.
I think over time he will be ok.

Re: McCartin - The biggest recruiting disaster of all time
How can you say this a year into a player's career? Paddy wasn't and still isn't anywhere near what he's hyped up to become. But it's about what they become, not what they are 7 games into a career. Full forwards take time to build confidence and skill in a game so contrasting with tac cup and vfl footy- where he kicked 6 for zebras last week. If we give him time to settle in and get used to the vastly different style and intensity of the big stage, we will reap the rewards 5 years down the track, when we are actual contenders with experience and skill to boot.

Re: McCartin - The biggest recruiting disaster of all time
McCartin should have had 5 marks and a goal at quarter time.
He led well and was not beaten in the air in a one-on-one. In fact, given that it was 3-on-1 most of the time, he competed very well.
We had 2 clean deliveries inside 50m all night, and McCartin didn't benefit from either one. It's a bit hard to judge a key forward.
He looks miles better than last year. Much fitter, ran to the contest, competed hard, second efforts.
Fraser Gehrig would have touched it less than Paddy did tonight.

Being a forward at St.Kilda was a thankless job tonight and McCartin played a bit like everyone else. Terrible ball skills... Fumbles, Limited opportunities... Disgraceful delivery.
Even that major stuff up with Billings = poor delivery.
On top of that, our structure is still really poor. Not enough rucks, Bruce out of the forward line... The whole night was a debacle.
The positive is that he finds space which suggests he has a good footy brain.
I reckon he'll get better. And we need better mids
Re: McCartin - The biggest recruiting disaster of all time
Imagine being a lead up forward at StK for 300 games... Now that's an effort
On Paddy
He hasn't shown an elite attribute as yet, he is slow and has little endurance. But he looks a competitor in the air, and is sometimes clever. Let's hope Petracca does not turn out a matchwinner.
Judd, Bartel, Stevie J, Jack Riewoldt/James Frawley, Dangerfield/Rioli, Shuey/Trengove, Darling, Bontempelli
All went within a pick or two after
Ball, Clarke, Maguire, Armo, McEvoy, Lynch, Cripps, billings
Plus we traded out picks
16 Pittard (Fyfe three after that)
12 & 13 2012 jaksh and Lonergan
Pick 5 Parish

You're better than that Marto. Parish was gone by our original pick.BigMart wrote:Imagine being a lead up forward at StK for 300 games... Now that's an effort

McCartin the absolute least of our worries. Our midfield is putrid and our defence is third rate.

Can we start a thread stating that we couldn't have drafted Parish as he was gone by the time our pick (which turned into pick 6) came..

Re: McCartin - The biggest recruiting disaster of all time
Paddy will be a very good player for our club.
Ready the play well, good lead and a strong unit.
Needs two more pre seasons to be fit for afl footy but is loyal, and a great attitude. He has a very good football brain and unlike Jack Watts is courageous in the contest. He just needs time.
No one kicks seven goals in the VFL by accident.
Comparing a no.1 pick midfielder to a no.1 pick forward is also unfair. Simply not Apples for apples.

He kicked 7 in a VFL praccy match with the other team clearly not all there, so discount that game. The Recruit wrote:Paddy will be a very good player for our club.

Maybe Paddy will come good mid next year - he's a slow burn.

Looked unimpressive, however according to Richo ( the Richmond type) his carrear at this stage goal wise is better than Roos (6 goals versus 5 -- I believe) . That being said Roo was a hell of a lot more mobile. He looks slow to me
And the president said " I did not have sex with that woman"
And our former president said " Football is like golf"

I don't think he looks like Roo at all and think its a bad comparison. If anyone he's more like Kosi.
If he doesnt make it Goddard will slot in there nicely.
We have no other choice but to be patient

Just to cheer everyone up. In 2007 we could've drafted Rioli or Dangerfield, but chose McEvoy instead. Btw, whatever happened to McEvoy? Oh, that's right............oh dear!
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!
