Re: GEARY
He's been poor with the ball... Gray and Winguard are imo the best two ground level fwds in the AFL
His win of a free kick by going lower and harder with 30 secs to go in the 3rd was important
Geary Fisher and Dempster are all very slow with the ball

Re: GEARY
On today's performance there a few spots up for "grabs" off the back of form at Sandringham and on the track.
Geary, who just has absolutely no precision with the ball and never disposes of it to advantage including regularly picking out opposition players with his 40 metre up and under kicks, is the prime in my opinion.
Savage and Webster, both also responsible for defence, are rabbits in the headlights and just lose far, far too many man on man contests, including because they lose their feet, so aka Geary.
With our mids tiring and losing numbers around the contest, the height in defence became a problem - because as a game wears on big players do not become shorter.
There were positives, with Hickey confirming my opinion on here over time that he can seriously play - he had easily passed Mc Evoy in Mc Evoy's last season with us but injuries then impacted.
And Acres can play.
IF only we had Carlisle and Freeman to add to Mc Cartin and Goddard.
What a difference that would make to structure and the mid-field.

Re: GEARY
Saved us a couple of goals with his courage and timing running backwards. Battled like a true warrior. Probably cost us a couple of goals from poor kicks as well. All up he probably broke even.
Deserves his spot in our best 22 but I still find it bizarre we signed him up through 2018. By 2018 I really hope DMac and/or White & Rice are ahead of him.

Re: GEARY
I didn't see any of the game today but heard Cameron Ling comment what fine job he did on Wingard.
I'm not sure who could do that better than Gears ?
CJ's disposal wasn't elite by any stretch but he cemented a place. Maybe this is what the club are working on ?

Re: GEARY
Sounds like Jazzy Geary will be a whipping boy for 2016. All I can say is that he is our most experienced player to fill that position. Those who are calling for his head will just have to wait until the conclusion of his career.

Re: GEARY
Geary will play until DMac or Rice are ready to take his spot. They might be a few years away. Certainly wont be this year and probably not next. 2018 I think Geary will lose his spot in the side. But that is 43 games he still has to play. That takes him beyond the 150 career game mark.Sainternist wrote:Sounds like Jazzy Geary will be a whipping boy for 2016. For being both the whipping boy and soft as ice cream?Wayne42 wrote:Maybe Geary's nickname on here should be Mr Whippy
Harsh, but I did have a chuckle.

Re: GEARY
His kicking is pretty sub-standard. There is no way it can be defended. On the upside, he's tenacious, brave, hard working, hard running, etc. We need him, and that's a reality. I'm a fan, but he does test my patience with critical turnovers. He seems to be okay when he's kicking laterally, but when his target is directly ahead of him, he rarely hits it.

Gilbert got 27 possessions a goal and five tackles. He was so good he got in the Age best twice.citywest wrote:Geary and Gilbert need to be phased out of the team. Their disposal by foot is very suspect. I would hope that by next year neither of them are in the side anymore.
You are garbage - Enough said
Re: GEARY
....but what the stats don't tell you is how many times his kicking caused turnovers. Personally, I would rather Goddard play instead of Gilbert. The sooner we phase out the oldies the quicker we get all our young players to that magical 50 game mark.Bunk_Moreland wrote:Gilbert got 27 possessions a goal and five tackles.
