Remember we have one extra player than them with White going down early. Maybe they're saving their interchange rotations. It's only by a few anyway. I am rapt with our effort so far, just hope they can sustain it after half time.saintspremiers wrote:Great game by Hickey. Awesome in fact.
Just one more good quarter then a dog fight in the last. Can't see us going down by much today, may even be a quarter chance.
Interchange is 47 us to 42 them.
We have only 43 left for the game!
Why aren't the TV commentators following this, or is it above their comprehension?
The 90 cap is a REAL cap and can influence the outcome if you have hardly any left and the game is close.
Will we run out of legs??

OK Acres needs to get it a bit more and his tackles dont really stick but at 20y 5 months I have seen enough to think he is going to make it. Did a few good things and showed some composure at times. 18 disposals should be par for him this year.

Half Time Observations...
1. Hickey is playing like he has promised. Winning the hit outs and if he doesn't he is making an impact as a midfielder.
2. Gresham has composure. Will get better with time for sure.
3. Templeton is playing himself into it. I had doubts, but if he can get stronger around the contests he will be a welcome addition around the ground.
4. Jack Steven is a gun. Enough said.
5. Seb Ross looks like a player, finally.
6. The commentators are hopeless. Leigh Matthews has no idea who the players are. The other guys are barracking for Port so badly.
7. Chad Wingard is a front running sook. Play the ball. Stop complaining. Get on with it. You have talent dont be such a complainer.
8. Geary is not good under pressure. He fumbles, goes to ground, coughs it up. So frustrating.
9. We have put in such a huge effort, I hope we can last the second half. Having a man advantage should help.
Go Saints.
Happy with what I have seen so far.

I'm rather enjoying just how dangerous we are around goal.
It feels like once the balls at HFF, any player could bomb one at anytime

I concur with no 7.

In that 2nd qtr acres stopped panicing and bombing it mindlessly and started making better decisions with the footy. I think he just needs to really get the AFL groove under his belt and he'll be plenty dangerous. His height has been handy around the ground too - he done some good spoils.Con Gorozidis wrote:OK Acres needs to get it a bit more and his tackles dont really stick but at 20y 5 months I have seen enough to think he is going to make it. Barracking, they get too excited when Port have possession. That's when you know they aren't on your side or likely to given unbiased comments.

How good is this, Collingwood suck, Carlton suck, Essendon suck and it appears to be an end of an era for Freemantle.

Re: Game Day: Power V Saints
Agree he is still a bit off the pace and usually his tackles get broken quite easily. But when he settles he goes ok. Have noticed some good spoils. That 190cm comes in handy in the air. The good news is I think he is learning as he goes. Just needs time and it will click at some point.Bluthy wrote:In that 2nd qtr acres stopped panicing and bombing it mindlessly and started making better decisions with the footy. I think he's going to get there, but he's played way less footy than some of his contemporaries. Just needs time.Bluthy wrote:In that 2nd qtr acres stopped panicing and bombing it mindlessly and started making better decisions with the footy. He's a huge unit. Reminds me also of BJ's rabbit in the headlights disposal in his first few years. He turned out OK...

I want him to DOMINATE the last half and us to WIN!
i am Melbourne Skies - sometimes Blue Skies, Grey Skies, even Partly Cloudy Skies.
Re: Game Day: Power V Saints
To win we need:
Billings is a match winner they are guarding carefully - he needs to get the ball in his hands
Gresham to lift - he's only had about 3 touches but he's got the class to make them hurt
Armo to lift - he's been cracking in but not his usual dominance
Steven to keep going - he's been outstanding
Hickey to ruck 2 more qtrs like that
Lonie to kick another couple
Weller to kick another couple
Bruce to kick a couple
Newnes needs to use his fitness to run run run in the second half as our youngsters will tire
Geary to clean up some of his sloppiness

Thats why we want Billings to get it - he can crack the play open with one kick - almost screwed it up

One on one vs Dixon... Who was that?
Like i said... Great player but one on one is Sam's weakness

Re: Game Day: Power V Saints
The counter-attack off half-back is killing us. We need to halt it, somehow.
