I'd hate for the guys to be like deer in the headlights in that kind of atmosphere and get off to a really poor start, they could end up getting smashed by 100 pts if the Power get away to that kind of flyer. On the other hand, if they hit in really hard early and let them know St Kilda are there for a game of footy... they could potentially drag Port Adelaide into a match that could very well still be alive at half time and even 3/4 time. If that's the case, The club could pinch a great win and a great to start the year.
Unfortunately, I think the silly mistakes coming out of defense and coughing up the ball at horrid times across the middle of the ground will again cost these up and coming Mighty Sainters. Port Adelaide by 38 pts.
Also, if we continue to let the opposition 'waltz' the ball out of our forward half then it won't matter who we have in defence.
Our defence is way undersized as it is.
I know its nothing new but we are 5 years away from any real contending.
We need stars like fyfe mundy in the midfield. Steven and armitage are fantastic but not elite and never will be.
I dont see any elite midfielders. Gresham again will be a good player but elite??
Ross same curren same templeton same dunstan same
Im worried. Maybe we shouldve got petracca. Mccartin seems old school player.
Depressing but truth hurts.
First time that I can remember we had the entire squad training today ( apart from Carlisle ) . Pretty well the full list to pick from. They're still one game away from full tilt, due to the missed NAB game and then the follow up day which was the deluge that hit last Friday.

Steven is elite, he would be a walk up start in every team in the competition.
Gresham is 18, played less than 2 practice matches, but you already question his talent yet Petracca hasn't played a single senior game and we should have recruited him?

Not sure who Steven would dislodge in some of the top teams, but he is one of the better enablers going round.
This discussion re: elite players or A players ....and how many we do or don't have.
I reckon we just need a team chock-full of B graders with skills all over the ground ... that will probably more than match it with a team which contains 6 A graders and 6 C graders (with the rest being B graders)?
"A" graders can hold a team to ransom, come negotiation time, potentially destroy team-morale, salary caps, etc.. (the usual story - are they going to re-sign, can we afford to pay overs to keep them? ) - anyway, odds are you could always develop a couple of A graders from your committed, hard-working B graders.

I reckon Port by 3-4 goals, but i reckon we can be competitive given it's first round, and we'll be fielding a fairly experienced lineup with all our best mature players available. Weather looks like it'll be mild, good for footy. I can't see us getting blown out of the water and am looking for a very respectable showing building on the improvements made last year.
My Team:
Geary Fisher Roberton
Webster Dempster Gilbert
Montagna Armitage Newnes
Billings Riewoldt Weller
Lonie Bruce Membrey
Foll: Hickey Ross Steven
Int: Dunstan Acres Templeton Savage
Personally, I wouldn't pick Weller, rather see Greshem in there, but given he seems to be a coaches pet, think he'll get picked.
He is not elite, disposal and decision making is poor.
He has elite attributes but has obvious flaws. Is a good AFL player
A Pendlebury, Mitchell, Dangerfield, Fyfe, Selwood, Boak, Ablett, Sheil,
He is more in a group with
N. jones, Cunnington, Ward
Also B&F winners

Well the best judges are the players themselves, Steven made 45th in the top 50 players and that doesn't just include midfielders http://www.afl.com.au/news/features/players-top-50#/one
Thats certainly to his credit. He's certainly no worse of a kick than Harvey was until Harves developed the 20m pass and made it his own. And before anyone asks no I'm not comparing him to Harvey, However both players have attributes aside from kicking that put them in a class above and to top it off his kicking is not THAT bad
