Re: NAB 3 Match Thread v Demons
I know it must be hard to believe but the clubs pretty happy about the game. Got the required minutes into them. Only a couple of mishaps with Roo and Shinna but both at this early stage look ok.
Remember Melbourne have pretty well gone in with a full strength team in all three games. We obviously have had a compromised preparation so the plan and the minutes for each player was pretty well pre planned. The reason Brucey spent a lot of time on the bench and Billings spent more time in the midfield than up front. Please remember it's called a practice match for a reason.

Needs to work on the defensive side of his game. His opponents run off him.

I would agree with thistony74 wrote:Needs to work on the defensive side of his game. His opponents run off him.
We shouldn't let a few sublime handballs and some matrix like skills bamboozle us - the kid still has a lot of work to do - especially on his tank

Re: NAB 3 Match Thread v Demons
Those that think missing a practise match will have no effect take a look at yesterday. Clearly lacked a run and are going to be struggling to make up ground.

Re: NAB 3 Match Thread v Demons
Nothing compares to a full on game for both fitness and sharpness of skills, particularly executing skills under AFL level pressure and Melbourne put on a lot of pressure. You could see they were all just a bit off the pace yesterday with reactions and rubbery legs. Look at Hawks loss and then turned it on against North. That good run yesterday should sharpen us up a fair bit for Port. The season is a marathon, not a sprint.CURLY wrote:Those that think missing a practise match will have no effect take a look at yesterday. 2016 should be - and must be - our last year in the bottom four - 2017 will be the season that we see improvement and movement into the middle rungs on the ladder.perfectionist wrote:Nick seems to have a calf strain. His 300th might be a few more weeks away. Jason Holmes has been OK. But I can't see us beating too many teams. I fear that the nadir is yet to come.

Re: NAB 3 Match Thread v Demons
Weller will be a good 'depth' player IMO. It was good to see the team stick to their game and not throw the towel in when they so easily could have. I thought we persevered well against North too, considering we fielded a young side and North being a top 4 team ATM.saintkid wrote:Weller's skills today were pretty poor. Early days but Melb had good team structure compared to us and should have won by more.
