Re: Carlisle Was A Big Big Mistake
Plenty of people said he was a risk because he lacked maturity. They were right and the club knuckled the deal. That's not rewriting history. It's genuine disappointment in the club's trading personnel (not the drafting personnel) who, I think, are waaaay overrated.Bunk_Moreland wrote:Don't know how much logic is involved in using emotive, and provocative statements like "proven idiot".whiskers3614 wrote:To quote Samuel Johnson>

If you can't tear down the unpopular opinion held by another poster with logic just flame away with accusations of treason.
Lovett was a huge risk and proved that way.
Where is the evidence re Carlisle BEFORE we signed him and his Snapchat lunacy?
What had he done apart from saying about Essendon what we all felt?
Seems like a bit of personal bias with a big handful of logical fallacy.
So in essence TTP is correct. It is a revisionist attack on the club re Carlisle.
His argument was logical. You can only answer what he proposes is true. However that's how it looks.
Someone ought to be held accountable and I'm yet to hear anybody do so.

I'm holding you accountable. You obviously knew that it was a major c**k-up, yet you failed to stop it occurring. Re: Carlisle Was A Big Big Mistake
While I agree that's true, we still need a chb, and preferably one that can hold the fort when we are playing the better teams. The ball is going to get down there at some stage, no matter how good the mids.BigMart wrote:spend the big bucks on mids

Re: Carlisle Was A Big Big Mistake
I don't watch the crap but the Mrs said that Barrett on the footy show said that Carlisle hasn't made any friends at the saints and may sue St Kilda for not getting paid. I advised her that we can't pay him due to him being suspended (but I may be wrong about that). Anyway I thought the dopers were going to pay him.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Re: Carlisle Was A Big Big Mistake
Purple is an idiot.
Carlisle has been out socially with many of the footballers.
Was on Foxfooty last night that the players are contacting him as are Richo.
Man Weller has been very forthcoming.
Barrett wouldn't know if you were up him.
THe suing bit had no meat. Was not detailed in what he was saying

I'll be pissed off is he takes legal action against St Kilda.
If that happens the decision to recurit him must be officially considered a mistake, make that a bloody monumental error.

I hope Richo or the players haven't contacted him as I'm sure that's prohibited under ASADA.Bunk_Moreland wrote:Purple is an idiot.

Not its not. WADA is not the KGB, they can't stop people from living their lives and socialising.Jacks Back wrote:I hope Richo or the players haven't contacted him as I'm sure that's prohibited under ASADA.Bunk_Moreland wrote:Purple is an idiot.

Mav Weller has been instrumental in getting Jake out socialising wth the boys, and Richo contacts Carlisle regularity.
All above and shows once again Purple Barrett wouldn't know s### from clay about the club and players relationship with Carlisle.
Just another cheap shot by Purple about the club.
The suing thing, I can't get my head around as he said Melskham and the Port boys hadn't been paid either.
Wanted to beat up some headline that a player who hasn't played with his club is suing them and just wanted to bash the Saints while Melskham is in the exact same boat.
This is the bloke that demanded we give up pick 5 straight all through the trade period for Carlisle but now it is a big mistake.
c**k

Re: Carlisle Was A Big Big Mistake
That sounds like rubbish. He didn't make friends initially in the sense that he created a drug scandal and then was late to training - thats probably what Barren is talking about. But the signs since then is that he has settled in well. And he's negotiating with Essendon for his pay - they may not want to pay him the full 500,000 but he can't really cry to St Kilda for the difference as he was the one taking the drugs and got suspended. ST Kilda arranged the job for him with a sponser which will be good for his future so I'm sure he's as happy as he can be in the circumstances.Jacks Back wrote:I don't watch the crap but the Mrs said that Barrett on the footy show said that Carlisle hasn't made any friends at the saints and may sue St Kilda for not getting paid. Carlisle's own Twitter account, which is by no means highly utilised, contains enough posts to suggest Barrett's comments are indeed crap.

Tweeted a photo of his niece in a saints jumper a couple of days ago. What a beat up.

Re: Carlisle Was A Big Big Mistake
I caught Purple's segment whilst flipping between channels. I thought it was a bit bazaar. A bit of a drive-by sniper shot to Jake and the Saints for some reason. To the best of my knowledge Jake will be suing Essendon, not the saints and seriously where does he get off talking about Jake's new friendships etc. That 20 seconds about Jake just reeked of really weasel journalism. He didn't even sound confident in what he was saying, just filling in his segment and by the time the season starts no one will remember it.

B O B D Y L A N'S P A T R I O T I C S C O U N D R E L
Whiskers3614 I am sympathising greatly with your angst in regard to the whole 'J.C.' case.
I know we desperately needed some tall timber down back but I felt very uneasy letting Pick 5 in the draft go for the big guy from windyhill.
Psychologically I would assume J.C. is a very young man. We have a mature coach who has the reputation of helping young players get the most out of themselves. This is a real test for A.R. If J.C. is open enough and willing to trust the teachings of A.R. he will have started to make a significant success of his rare talent. At this moment in time I would not rule out the ability of A.R. to make this happen - of coarse it takes two to tango and Jake must want it.
On the Samuel Johnson quote well done and a good point to reflect on for sure. I didn't realise that this quote goes way back to 1775 !
I've always liked the Bob Dylan inclusion of Johnson's remark in his song " Sweetheart like you"
"They say that patriotism is the last refuge
To which a scoundrel clings
Steal a little and they throw you in jail
Steal a lot and they make you king
There's only one step down from here, baby
It's called the land of permanent bliss
What's a sweetheart like you doing in a dump like this ?"
