1996 St Kilda v Footscray
Guys
Shortly after it was announced that Trevor Barker had passed away, the saints next game in 1996 was a Sunday round 5 game at VFL Park v Footscray.
It was an emotional day, but the saints got up and won, 16.20.116 to 13.12.90.
I am trying to locate a copy of this game, either in full, or the Sunday replay.
I do not want to go through name a game for it, i would rather find someone t trade footage with.
If anyone can help me with a copy of this game, either on vhs, or dvd, then i would really love to hear from you
thank you

Re: 1996 St Kilda v Footscray
One of our gutsiest wins ever.
Stan Alves has said that when he looked around the room before the game he realised that none of the players were mentally fit to play.
But play they did and won against a good opponent.
The pain of the day wasn't helped with news beginning to filter through about a mass shooting at Port Arthur.

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

What a terrible but uplifting day.
Uplifting when they let out a whole heap of doves (I think) pre match.

That was a very surreal day that was - releasing Bark's pigeons, and then the Port Arthur happenings coming through on the radio after halftime...
The game almost became inconsequential with the emotional start and finish to the game. Strange day indeed.

I was at the game and we didn't look switched on, when I thought the boys would have really come out swinging for Trev. I think Joel Smith either set up or kicked one or two goals that got us over the line in the end when we were looking like we might be run over.

I remember Stan Alves saying after the game that even if we had have lost it wouldn't have meant the players loved Barks any less.
My Uncle, who was a mad Saints fan and went to every match, died the day before Barks. Was the saddest game I've ever attended.

Thanks so much for that. You've left me wondering.... You don't have a copy of the 1996 centenary round match between St.Kilda and Collingwood at the MCG by any chance?mcadam05 wrote:here you go

The 1996 footscray game...makes you remember how good joel smith was as an 18 year old. At that stage of career he showed more talent/ability/promise than aussie jones
Obviously the knee injury set him back in 97 & would have been useful in the finals of that year....as would have everitt & vidovic (still have not moved on), & then moved to hawks in 98
Just a wasted talent for the saints

Sensational, I can't wait to see that game. I loved the Centenary clashes. Great nostalgia, with some awesome footy.mcadam05 wrote:i do indeed , as I have some time off work over the next few weeks I will be putting quite few "new" videosprwilkinson wrote:Thanks so much for that. Mcadam05, you are a YouTube marvel - an absolute treasure trove of Saints' goodies is up there that I thought I'd never see again. Thank you so much.
Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.
