Thomas has been treated poorly, firstly by Butters then by the AFL and it's propagander machine.

Now that AD is gone there is a place in the media for Thommo.

The perception of Grant Thomas, like most things was media and establishment driven, and people without the ability to think for themselves and need to resort to popular opinion... Have the typical stance when it comes to all matters Grant Thomas.
He gets little credit for starting a winning culture within StK (a very difficult thing to do) and was somewhat of a visionary wrt leadership and team building in his time. Many of his crackpot ideas are now common place amongst AFL clubs.

He coached the Saints from 2001-06 and was one of the first to incorporate community and overseas camps within the pre-season program.
The playing group was close-knit and came awfully close to winning a premiership just a few years after Thomas was replaced by Ross Lyon.
“Thommo came back to the club with Rod Butters at the start of my era and he’s a very good judge of character and responsible for going out and putting the 2000s group together,” said Koschitzke.
“He went and got quality people and put us all together and started the journey.
“He was revolutionary Thommo in the way he thought about things, the way he thought about leadership – the rotating captain, a no hierarchy system.”
He is spot on of course.
