Cats struggling with $91 mill development of which they pay $5

Geelong will lose more than $1 million this year and look set for another heavy loss next year.
With a debt of $5 million, most of it emanating from the four recent development stages of Simonds Stadium, the club will next year contribute $390,000 in equalisation taxes compared with the $500,000 the Hawks will be charged. Hawthorn registered a $3.3 million profit for 2015.

Amazing how having a couple of State Premiers supporting your team and the $$$$$ flow your way!

Thought Gordon would be broke given the ambulance chasers are nearly insolvent?

Yes. If I was the financial person at Western Bullies I'd bank the cheque immediately before it bounces!

All over in 30 mins

Spud as MC
Introduced the pres.
Pres then introduced the board (just missing the NZ lady) and thanked retired director Nathan Bourke.

Item 1 : Annual report
PS spoke to it.
Improvements off field - membership up; sponsorship up; hospitality experience up
Better Comms at all levels.
Supporter satisfaction up.
Sponsor satisfaction up.
The quality is up in all we do.
Clarity on Moorabbin has been achieved but will maintain our connection with Seaford.
Moorabbin move is a game changer.
The move comes with some challenges incl the loss of revenue during the redevelopment.
Also the loss of NZ income in 2016.
On field 2015 was encouraging.
We are playing a better brand.

Item 2 : election of directors.
PS, Andrew T and newly appointed director Dean Anderson were all up for re election.
There being no other nominations they are duly elected.

Questions
NO QUESTIONS!

End of formal business.

Danny introduced Richo.
AR paid tribute to new conditioning coach Matt Hornsby (from Richmond).
His focus is on endurance which has lead to a different pre season approach.
In 2015 we were up 29 on scoring and saved 44 (I think he meant goals over the season).
In 2016 we aim to improve our scoring by 7 and save an extra 12 (I think he meant points per game?)
He was pleased with 2015 and had a friendly dig at the umpiring blunders that cost us a win against Geelong.
Gave R23 v WCE as an example of how our young team were doing the right things metric wise -more inside 50s etc in first half but inability to maximise opportunities was costing us on the scoreboard.
Camp in QLD was good but hot.
Hugh G is ok now but his collapse was symbolic of the effort being put in.
AR paid tribute to his staff in particular Adam Kingsley for being voted best assist coach.
Also thanked departing players especially Farren Ray.
Praised the recruiters Danny S and A Baines.
He rambled on about something Alistair Clarkson had said but I think his point was that Hawthorn thrived on stability and thanked the StK board for similar stability.
Alluded to how some of the older players were part of a team that won more games over a 10 year period than any other side in the comp, and we are building to a new era.
Finally thanked the supporters for their support.

The RECRUITS
Danny introduced our 7 new recruits and brought them up on stage.
After scaring them by asking them to sing the club song he told them if you embrace the club it will embrace you.

Happy Xmas.
End of meeting.

Two encouraging signs - Freeman didn't appear to be limping and I didn't observe any white powder on Carlisle's face.

So thinking this through Richo is saying that in 2015 compared to 2014 we improved our scoring by 8 points per game (29 extra goals over 22 rounds = 8 points per game ignoring that we also kicked an extra 41 points in 2015) but defensively we let through 12 less points per game so we were 20 points better off in terms of margin.

In 2016 he basically wants a similar improvement; 7 extra points for and 12 points less against equals a 19 point margin improvement.

So our margin per game target in 2016 is 39 points better than 2014.
If achieved that is a MASSIVE turnaround and would make us competitive with all but the best.

Applying a 19 point improvement to our results in 2015 would have given us an extra 4.5 wins on top of the 6.5 we had giving us 11 wins.
So prepare to be knocking on the final 8 door.

Don't limit yourself. You'll be surprised by what you can achieve.

Comparing our losses to Carlton. They make somewhere between $18 million and $22 million a year from poker machines. How incredibly inept are their administration to turn a loss each year. If we made that much per year from poker machines we'd be posting huge profits.

Just watch our financial position change when we go back to Morrabbin with our stand alone VFL team

How much will moving back to Moorabbin improve our financial position? We were going broke when an AFL team played there.

A stand alone VFL team playing at the Western Oval has been a boon for The Bulldogs, and I don't see why it would't be for us. There are many, many saint fans who are truly excited about this, and it's something the club can utilise to its advantage.

We'll be OK. Nine teams are planning to be worse this year.

We don't need more machines, we just need a greater utilisation of them. That will come with a new club house. Social area and hopefully some great RSL type club food being prepared. Remember being blown away by some of the Rugby League social clubs even 20 years ago. We can do so much more in this space to generate revenue AND add to the sense of belonging. I'd also love to see a front in St Kilda (pub or the like) that can be a central meeting place for games / after match functions to give us a presence in the suburb itself. I know that some would say you're better off not diversifying, however; I see this as key to our foothold In St Kilda.
