I'm sorry mr know it all if I wasn't happy with us trading away our 2nd round pick for next year. Sure, no drama if we finish 10th but if it's another (likely) bottom four finish its a high price to pay.

I don't know why you call yourself Bunk.
So who would we have gotten with our 2nd rounder next year if you are so knowledgeable?

yeah...not the best news lets be honest.

doubt colling are laughing..nobody wants to see a young player plagued by injuries no matter the circumstances.

look let's treat it for what it is, a strain in december, and hope that it helps further inform our team on how to manage the young fella. All we want is to see him on the park.

re what we traded - my view is we traded far too much for him and the big fella, given the circumstances surrounding them nominating us etc but whats done is done. the team there knows a hell of a lot more than me~

Two week hamstring... so it's just tight or SLIGHTLY tweeked. I'm guessing they're treating him with kid gloves. Perfect timing given the heavy training load he's just been through and it's right on the xmas/new year break. Doubt he'll miss much at all.

my worry is that Collingwood's own sports and meds personnel, with a considerably larger budget than own own, couldn't get him right. Why would we?

We paid a lot for a guy with terrible injury history and eight weeks later he was injured again.

We paid even more for a known d**khead and within eight hours he was in trouble.

They were both high risk decisions. Let's hope the long run sees them OK because right now they look dubious in the extreme.

Agreed but bargains if they work out. That's the risk you take. There is a bigger risk recruiting an unknown.

But I guess when Collingwood recruited Freeman he was an unknown......... hasn't been able to get on the park (except for a few VFL games) with Collingwood........... so for us to take him on we are still recruiting a virtual "unknown" just he's a few years older with no track record (apart from hammy injuries) ..... A real risky Unknown IMHO.

Let's hope he gets over this latest setback and can eventually get to play footy for the Saints and then we can see if this 'unknown' has been worth the risk eh?

That's true but the pies didn't want to lose him so it suggests in 2 years of training they have seen he is up to AFL level.

Might just be like Hamill's 2 week minor knee injury?

If Rice doesn't work out it may be one of our worst ever drafts.

Dont know about ever but we have had some shockers in the last decade that will be hard to bottom. 2008-2010 really were dark drafts. If you want to know why we finished bottom in 2014 you dont have to look too far to figure it out:

2008
Heyne, Lynch, Stanley, Young, Cahill, Begley

2009
Miles, Winmar (the not good one), Smith, Pattison, Johnson

2010
Crocker, Ledger, Gamble, Simpkin, Polo, Cripps

0/17 still on our list.

Some that we missed out on
Dayne Beams (08 pick 29)
Dan Hannebery (08 pick 30 - Oakleigh Chargers)
Liam Shiels (08 pick 34)
Steve Motlop (08 pick 39)
Mitch Robinson (08 pick 40)
Rory Sloane (08 pick 44)
Nat Fyfe (09 pick 20)
Jack Gunston (09 pick 29 Sandy Dragons)
Alan Christensen (09 pick 40)
Taylor Duryea (09 pick 69)
Cameron OShea (10 pick 52)

Ok looking at 2010 - it was a pretty s*** draft outside the top 10 so that one wasnt our fault.

08 was an awesome draft. Loads of good players in there which is quite amusing when you consider Jack Watts was pick one.

Then again, if Carlisle pulls his head in, the young kids become good players and Freeman's hammies behave, it might be one of our best ever drafts. Really it's too early to say so what's the point of getting all sooky now?

Well, let's be honest, Carlisle is risky because we are awaiting the outcome of a tribunal, which, if he is found guilty, could see him miss 2 years of playing and training. Personally, I think if he doesn't get suspended he will be a very good/great player for us. Very, very handy.
Freeman needs to get his legs right - if he misses training over the Xmas/New Year period when they are off anyway, having done all of the early heavy fitness stuff, I couldn't care less, to be honest. Aussie Jones had dodgy hammies for a while and then he eventually got them right. Freeman didn't leave Collingwood because of his hammies, he left them because he wanted to play for the Saints.
Rice will be an absolute beauty, and he was a bargain anyway.
Carlisle and Freeman are no bigger risks than speculating how a young draftee will come up. How's Toumpas, Scully and Watts going?
This is going to be a development year anyway, so my expectations of winning % is low - less than 33% again, so 6, maybe 7 wins, so it is all about finding who is in our best 22, and who do we need to get in the following draft/trading period while we are still low enough on the ladder to get a high draft pick.

No wonder we did no good in the draft if RL was picking them. I think people need to realise he has bugger to do with the drafted players but would have had a bit to do with the traded players. Some of previous drafters weren't to good either. Not sure that makes it the coaches fault. Was SW good at drafting?

As for others thinking the worst about a draft in December, well I don't get the point.

Reminds me of Plugger too.... he was always 2 weeks away for a couple of months with his back at one stage. Rob Harvey couldn't get his hammy's right for the first few years of his career and he turned into a pretty handy player. Freeman will be right. Stick with the positives. He's at the back end of a very heavy training block and he completed 99% of it. It's the perfect time for him to be tapered off for a few weeks.

Actually he is about four months from playing a competitive game - quick panic

Aussie?

He played 19 in his first season, then 22, 25, 23, 19. Was barely injured in his whole career.

Harves played 18 games in 1990 - aged 18
Played 23 games in 1991 - aged 19.

Amazing how we mythologise the past to tell ourselves something pleasant about the current.
