If you simply looked at the strengths and weaknesses for Jade Gresham you’d be forgiven for thinking he will be a top 10 pick in this draft, whilst he could go close, I’d be surprised if he did.
That's not to say that Gresham isn’t one of the better prospects in this year's draft, because he is. He just lacks that dominant trait which makes clubs stand up and say, 'I have to get that player'. I’m talking about traits such as Jacob Hopper’s contested ball work or Aaron Francis’ elite footskills.
Gresham is a lead by example sort of player who can accumulate big numbers and he uses the ball well. What I’d like to see more of though, is for Jade to take more attacking options and risks with his possessions, as the most common criticism I have heard is, “Does he hurt the opposition with his touches”.
In my opinion, Gresham is a top 20 pick. Players who can average 33 and 27 touches in the TAC Cup and National Championship respectively at an efficiency of 70-80% deserve to be selected in the first round, especially when you factor in leadership, clearance work and an ability to hit the scoreboard

Re: Jade Gresham
He sounds like a good pick and SEN were very bullish on him.
But who really would know if Gresham will end up being better or worse than say Oliver.
So many variables.

Re: Jade Gresham
Can someone tell me what happened to our original second round pick.?
I know we traded our 2016 second round for Freeman but our 2015 would have been about 23

Worried a tad by the size of Gresham, Steven, Billings if we want them to be key midfielders for us. Really relying on Ross to develop into a key mid. But then again we might get a big unit with pick 6 or 7 next year. Like the sound of his good disposal - Jack Steven with good disposal is a mouth watering prospect. Lets hope Jade becomes our valuable little gem!

Re: Jade Gresham
Agree. We really need both Ross and Acres to make it as clearance players. Both big boys. If that happens we will be contenders.Bluthy wrote:http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-11-04/2 ... de-gresham

Re: Jade Gresham
It's funny to see a bloke who is 177 cm tall (approaching 5'10" on the old scale) being described as a "little fella".

"Jade Gresham's smarts and craftiness with the ball have him as a first-round contender. Gresham was one of four winners of the goalkicking test and also placed highly in the other kicking and handballing skills tests. "

Interesting that Balic and Mathieson lasted almost until our next pick.RavsterII wrote:Official pick 18: JADE GRESHAM

Knightmare from BigFooty on Gresham:
Sounds like he has a lot of work to do.Gresham is a high production small midfielder with a lot of ability and lots of strong performances through the TAC Cup these past two seasons for Northern. Gresham for a small strikes a good balance between finding the outside ball and winning the contested ball. His primary strength is his skillset which is clean, reliable and with a degree of creativeness showing good vision and decision making ability. In saying that with ball in hand he does look to overuse it and chip it around, kicking sideways rather than generating meaningful drive forward. Gresham is a capable finisher, showing that he can provide some scoreboard impact and he also has the cleanness and quickness at ground level so he may be able to start playing more minutes in the front half. Athletically Gresham is average and not on the level you’d expect for a small, with only average but speed, agility and endurance, and in game while he will get to every contest he is not someone who will take on the game frequently or offer meaningful run and carry. Gresham is a light bodied so while he can win his own ball he also can be pushed out of the contest which will affect his contested ball winning ability at the next level. Similarly a tackling perspective Gresham has a go but requires more strength as his tackles can be broken. As a mark, Gresham is clean overhead and takes plenty of marks around the ground but v contact and 1v1 struggles.

Re: Jade Gresham
He seems to have a bit of Cyril Rioli about him. An exciting acquisition.

Surely you would expect that from nearly every player drafted. Our number one pick from last year still has a lot of work to do and he has been in the sytem a year already. Those expecting a 177cm on baller to have much if any impact next season are deluding themselves.
Re: Jade Gresham
Getting a better picture of the future. Don't know what the plans are for the interchange cap in the future but having 1 of the short blokes in Gresham, Lonie and Sinclair constantly rotating through the mid will save a lot of changes.

This kid is fast and with a 14.1 beep he already has a tank.
Could get games early on the back of that if his work ethic is any good.
