Herald sun 1990-2015 teams

Post: # 1590097Post older saint »

I have seen they are running a best teams and ladder of the period below. Richmond was bottom and Melbourne next. I am guessing Freo, Bulldogs ( not sure of order as free has played a GF, but then probably StKilda - as every other team has won a premiership in that era. Will be interesting to see who they select in the Best 22 of that time frame, here is my guess:

B: Hudghton, Frawley, Baker
HB:Voss, Fisher, Goddard
C:Montagna, Hayes, Dal Santo
HF: Roo, Loewe, Winmar
F: Milne, Lockett Gerhig
Ruck: Everitt, Harvey, Burke

Int:Kosi, A Jones, Thompson,Blake

Unlucky - D Grant, Hamill, Pekin,Peckett

have a go

I would put in Sean Dempster over Voss, Kosi or Blake. Perhaps Peckett over Baker. Other than that I think you've picked a great team.

I'd have David Grant over Voss, and Dempster also over Blake, otherwise I agree, great team.

That forward line would be unstoppable. Interchange the G Train with Sammy and you lose nothing either.

Coach would be Stan or Kenny, nod i reckon. With that forward line you wouldn't need the Lyon defence as you'd be confident to winning any game that became a shootout. Backline is still great anyway so this team would rock and would be stand up against most other best of teams of the era for sure

Jones starting, dempster in, voss out; gardner in for kosi, hamill, mcadam, or ball in for thompson and blake.

The qualification is 100 games, 5 years or 200 goals so Gardiner and McAdam don't qualify.
My team:

Sean Dempster Danny Frawley Justin Peckett
Austin Jones Sam Fisher Brendan Goddard
Nicky Winmar Robert Harvey Joey Montagna
Nick DalSanto Stewie Loewe Nick Riewoldt
Stephen Milne Tony Lockett Fraser Gehrig

Peter Everett
Lenny Hayes
Nathan Burke

Int: Luke Ball, Justin Koschitske, Jack Steven, David Armitage

Just looking at that side, I'm now having visions of Nicky Dal hitting PPPLLLUUUGGGEEERRR right on the nipple. Whilst Riewoldt's just roaming across the middle of the ground dictating play like the stallion he is. All in front of 25,000 at Moorabbin.... with the beers flowing in the animal enclosure... SAINTS!!

Didn't Gilbert McAdam play only 3 years and 50 games at StK?

Surely 252 and twice top 3 in the B&F would have Frankie higher

David Grant was good in 91/92 but again, not sure how good he was over an extended period

Hamill nowhere near it IMO

Well pick your side then so we can see what you would do. McAdam and Gardiner aren't eligible.

I picked a team to win games of footy and assumed they'd be in their absolute prime, not for how much they gave to the jumper or whether they finished their career with one knee left. How are Plugger and G Train going to play in the same forward line? Sammy can push up the ground and he bascally invented the concept of forward pressure... so if the ball spills and plugger is out of the contest... Sammy is there to crack in and hold it up.

Franky was on the magnet board for a very long time... he still is... as an emergency.. There's a few others too which you can't fit in... Franky Coghlan, Mick Dwyer(underrated), etc. etc. etc...

Plugger

You didn't say whether you agreed or not?...

Frankie or Gilbert??

I think the side is pretty obvious... With only a couple of decisions.
I go on how many games a player was a significant contributor

I wouldn't have either. And Steven surely makes our best side now.
