More classic games on Fox Footy
Tomorrow (Monday) 7:30AM Round 7 1994 v Swans. Yes that game.
Tuesday 5PM Round 3 1997 v Pies. One of my favorites from the '90s. We went into the game in last place, Collingwood on top. Heatley's first game I think.
For all the great games we played in the '90's it seems that they are the only wins they are showing. They're also showing the '97 final but you can look that up yourself if you want to put yourself through it.

I remember those games very well -in fact I have them on VHS somewhere.
The Sydney one wa on tv.
we looked lost halfway through the last quarter and Plugger went berserk with about 6 goals.
The 1997 match I was there and that was a fantastic see-sawing game which we got up and won thanks to Peter Everitt kicking 6 goals.

I was at my girlfriend's flat in Sale for the Sydney game. I'm not sure she really had an appreciation of my fanaticism with footy prior to that day. I was watching the game getting more and more frustrated with our performance. She asked me why I was still watching it...Then Plugger went nuts and won us the game. I turned to her and said...That's why I keep watching it.
The Collingwood game highlighted how dangerous Everitt could be. He used to play very well against Collingwood as they had no match up for him. Loewe, Heatley and Everitt were a great combination in the forward line. We had a good team in that era and it's a shame we lost Vidovic and Everitt late in the season.
We'd lost the first two games that season and beat Collingwood at Waverley then lost the next two to be 1-4 after five rounds. We ended up finishing the H&A season on top. Great effort. We then won our Qualifying and Preliminary finals comfortably.
The Sydney win late in the season was another cracker...coming from three goals down at 3/4 time to win by nine after Lappin sealed the game.

The other game against Collingwood in '97 was also great, except for the part where Joel Smith did his knee

Speaking of former posters
I was in melb for ten or so days a week ago and I'm sitting at DFO eating area near the train station and if that wasn't sainter66au sitting behind me glued to his phone then he has a twin brother.

After the siren, too. Winning that game, although Collingwood weren't great that year, was the first time I realised we were a genuine contender.Life Long Saint wrote:And Loewe hitting post from the goal sqaure after a pulling in a great mark.Sainternist wrote:The other game against Collingwood in '97 was also great, except for the part where Joel Smith did his knee
We'd taken two really big Sunday wins at the MCG after trailing in both - against Essendon earlier in the year (the game which proved we could actually play a bit) and then that Collingwood win in front of 68,000.
The Essendon one was probably my favourite. Two weeks before, Stan Alves was coaching for his job against Melbourne. Melbourne lost. Neil Balme was sacked instead. As expected, we drilled Port Adelaide (their first ever season) the next week.
I certainly wasn't expecting we'd get near Essendon. I remember the drive in...agreeing that anything under a four-goal defeat would be a good result.
We led 6.8 to 2.4 at QT, but they hammered us and kicked seven goals to one to lead by 14 points at HT. The breeze was a factor that day and we nudged it back to seven points at 3QTR time.
It looked like they'd run away with it, kicking to the scoring end, but we kicked seven goals to two in a famous last-quarter win. Spider kicked four, but we had seven multiple goal-kickers.
Good memories. The most enjoyable season to be a Sainter (but with an ending more devastating than 2009 or 2010. Only recently have been able to watch highlights and moments.)
Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

Loved watching the 1980 Saints v Essendon game the other day. Couldn't remember who had won, so it was like watching it live (albeit in a time warp)! Great effort by our guys who were probably a pretty ordinary team that year up against a pretty good Essendon side (Dannihers, Watson, Madden, etc)

Re: More classic games on Fox Footy
Watching that Collingwood game this afternoon just showed how much of a tragedy it was to lose Everitt in that first final.
He could have been the difference in the result of that game as he was on fire that season and too much was left to Loewe in that final and made it easy for Adelaide to cover him.

Re: More classic games on Fox Footy
Can't remember how far back, thought it was first row could've been 5
Dunno if Kenny was there
Was that the game someone bought all the tickets for us and then didn't go?
It was either Kenny or sen maybe?
Gee that brings back some memories
Was that the one when we went back to that pub and sung the song about ten times and those guys started singing the seaside song??
Edit the pub thing after the game must've been getting in to the first 2010 GF
Can't wait for all this to happen again, winning finals, a shot at a flag.

I just want to see us win that last game of the season on these highlights and not from 50 years ago.
Think of me long enough to make a memory.

Just watching a replay of the 2009 round 14 game v Geelong. For a past player who quite often is potted on this site, McQualter is sure having a good game, if our current 'bottom six' had his disposal efficiency / forward fifty delivery we' d be a bit further up the ladder.
