New jumper numbers thread (only for those who care)
It's about time now to start debating who should get which numbers.
Let's start with the obvious:
Bailey Rice = 37 (his dad's no, for those not old enough to remember)
Therefore
Jack Lonie = 13 (his mentor Schneiderman's old jumper)
That works perfectly to my mind.
McCartin and Goddard have next door lockers, which keeps them happy together.
They'll get promoted at some point from 32 & 33.
I'd like to see them in 10 and 11. (or similar)
I don't think they've earned an upgrade yet. Leave them till next year.
Sinclair needs to be promoted.
I reckon 2 is his number.
So we've still got 10, 22?, 23, 31, 38, 40, to allocate
If Weller wanted a promotion he could go to 10. But 44 remains a 'prestige' number -- he's probably happy with it.
There's no one else I'd really want to promote.
McKenzie maybe. Webster -- yes (29 always moves to a top 10 number!). Possibly Bruce? I quite like the idea of Bruce in 10
Or maybe save 10 as a big reward for someone next year.
22 (if available) I guess goes to Carlisle. Not that I think he deserves the favour.
He's not getting 10!
23 goes to Freeman I suppose. Although it doesn't seem right not being a CHF.
I'd be happy to see Jason Holmes in 31 -- it's traditionally a ruckman's number.
There's also whoever we pick first in the draft.
I don't like to see any newby get a top 12 number (except the exceptions Reiwoldt good in 12, Billings about right in 15)

Never thought of Stephen Theodore as a CHF.

Re: New jumper numbers thread (only for those who care)
Seeing Goddard and McCartin get thrown a lower number last year suggests Richo is probably big on the whole "earn your stripes" philosophy. So the a couple of the younger boys might have to sit on their high numbers for a bit longer yet.....
....and it also might see Carlisle running around in 55 for next season!!!
If Lonie was going to get 13, I would have loved to have seen Schneider hand it over after his last game.
Bruce and Webster have earnt their stripes and can move down. Maybe Bruce in 2 and Jimmy in 10??
Rice should want a different number than his old man's. Most kids these days want to "walk their own path" so to speak...

Sippa getting number 2 and Crippa 35 worked really well for us

Re: New jumper numbers thread (only for those who care)
2 pick 14 (or it will go to someone like Jimmy Webster)
10 Mav Weller
13 Lonie
22 Carlisle
23 Bruce
37 Rice (someone said that was his dads number)
not sure what number Freeman gets though. I wouldnt be surprised if he got 35 or something like that in the 30's.
Honestly id be saving 12 and 25 for either McCartin and Goddard or just retiring #12 for good because 35 has lost its value.

Re: New jumper numbers thread (only for those who care)
I like Bruce wearing 27.
I haven't been this excited about a number 27 since George Young! And he's a left-footer too.
I heard that Spud was keen on Carlisle taking the number 2 but that was before the white line fever hit. So 22 looks about right...He can keep his current twitter handle.
I also like Rice in the 37 like his dad but he may want to make his own way.

Re: New jumper numbers thread (only for those who care)
The numbers currently vacanted are: 2,10,13,23,31,38 & at this stage (22,35 if Ray & Saunders dont get back to St.Kilda).
and we now have an extra pick on the seniors list for a DFA! (Kane Mitchell,Zac O'Brien?)
2- Pick 14
10- Freeman
13- Lonie
23- Carlisle
31- DFA
22*- Ray
35*- Saunders
38- Rookie
So 37* will be changed from Lonie to 2nd round pick/Bailey Rice

Re: New jumper numbers thread (only for those who care)
definitely see Jack Sinclair in a nippy number 2.
no way should Weller give up 44 - especially as he has been playing forward. It's a prestige jumper. Prestige Worldwide. Worldwide. Worldwide.

Apparently the number on the jumper worn by all these guys the first time turned out in the red, white and black. (or red, yellow and black).Freebird wrote:avid wrote: I'd be happy to see Jason Holmes in 31 -- it's traditionally a ruckman's number.

It always SEEMED TO ME to be traditionally a ruckman's number.
I would say though, that since the mid '60s when I started watching, in #31 we've had BOB Pascoe (not Barry, I'm pretty sure), Jeff Sarau, Rod Galt. Bob Jones, and Matt Maguire looked pretty good as a tall backman after the concept of the back pocket resting ruckman disappeared (and Jamie Shanahan too). Can I count Travis Payze as a ruck-rover?? That's most years covered. Andrew McQualter I admit doesn't fit my model very well.

That's Because McQualter always wore 32

Enjoy this thread....and I reckon it's important we respect club traditions and make an effort to develop a culture.
But I was dissapointed that Templeton was given 4 last year, I would have tolerated 44
