Looks like plans to put Ray and Saunders on the Rookie list.

Re: More delistings
Saunders contracted and will be rookie.
Frees up another spot on the list so possibly more than one live pick on 24th of Nov or a DFA?

You are garbage - Enough said
Re: More delistings
Gives us 4 vacancies on the senior list, one of those filled with Sinclair upgrade. So three players bought in via the draft. Happy with those delistings

Re: More delistings
This suggests we've found a player we like deeper in the draft.
We'll almost certainly need to use 45 on Rice, meaning we'll pick up a smokey really late.
Either that, or we have someone lined up in the PSD.

Re: More delistings
Jesus Christ just delist Ray for good. Crazy making him a rookie (if that's being considered). May as well use that rookie spot with a youngun' and try out luck. Very little to be gained with Ray at this point in his career. He'd be more use full time at Sandy.
i am Melbourne Skies - sometimes Blue Skies, Grey Skies, even Partly Cloudy Skies.
Re: More delistings
Happy enough with those. I thought they wouldn't have the guts to move on Saunders but that now means we bring in five to the senior list and one more rookie which is an OK number (one or two more would be better though).BringBackMadDog wrote:Ray, Saunders off primary list, Saad off Rookie

Re: More delistings
Ray played some good footy for us over the years, though went off the boil a little, and with new blood coming through, his role is sort of redundant. Saunders just seems to lack that something in his game that is needed to go to top level. Those two are VFL standard at the moment. Saad probably needs a new start at another club.
Re: More delistings
Smart delistings but please only put saunders back on the rookie list. Farren has been great for us but there is no point in him being around the club now.

Would have thought Curran over Saunders to be honest.

Re: More delistings
Would have thought this was the case. If Essendon go for height (Gorridge, Warnock, whoever) we're bound to end up with one of either O'Brien, Wright or Brown, all of whom would be useful as like for like depth if nothing else. I'm hoping O'Brien is incoming.St Chris wrote:Either that, or we have someone lined up in the PSD.
Re: More delistings
The only reason I see them keeping Ray as a rookie is if they think its a really weak draft and they just don't see it worth rookieing too many youngsters this year and prefer instead to keep Ray for his coaching/good clubsmen presence like Schneider last year. I'd prefer we risk a rookie spot on a youngster instead of Ray.
Saunders is in big trouble. Just hasn't been able to make an impact at senior level. Needs to develop some sort of edge to his game - try and develop an elite tank or something as his kicking/marking/decision making hasn't been great. Last chance this year.
I think we all saw Saad going after he couldn't get senior games with the wooden spooners.

The difference is when Schneider was a rookie most of our younger players had 10 to 20 less games in them. Time is up for Ray but it sounds like Saunders will be rookied. Not sure I understand your last sentence at all.

Re: More delistings
Maybe the club has its sights on a player who is assumed to go late, like Liam Jeffs, Brandon White, or Sam Skinner, or a slider. Who knows.

Our Saad and Milera trade from GWS a few years ago seems like a big win for them.Goose is king wrote:Saad had to go

Re: More delistings
The Saints plans will be affected by if and where there are bids for Rice by other clubs.
No bid could see us using Pick 45 (and will be effectively lower) on a new player.
Whereas an early bid could see us having to use both 45 and 68 on Rice and only having a late pick available.
With Freeman and Carlisle both ready to play there was/is less need for Ray.
* Freeman can play as a sweeper / outside mid
* Carlisle frees up Fisher and Gilbert to be sweepers....or even for them to take Websters role so that he can be pushed up the ground (wing/outside mid etc)
The form of both Lonie and Sinclair meant that they have jumpred in front of Sanders.
Ditto for Saad and more so as both Lonie and Sinclair are much more rounded than him.

Re: More delistings
Looking at the picks just prior to Ross, Ross is the best of the bunch and so we lost nothing.CURLY wrote:Yeah got Seb Ross with the pick.saintsRrising wrote:Wasn't it only for a downgrade by a couple of picks?magnifisaint wrote:Our Saad and Milera trade from GWS a few years ago seems like a big win for them.Goose is king wrote:Saad had to go

You are correct but the idea of multiple picks for one pick understand Pelchen didn't really work. Never liked it and still don't. Glad we didn't do it this trade period.

I'm sure this was one of Pelchen's masterstrokes. Trade pick 20 for Milera and Saad.CURLY wrote:Yeah got Seb Ross with the pick.saintsRrising wrote:Wasn't it only for a downgrade by a couple of picks?magnifisaint wrote:Our Saad and Milera trade from GWS a few years ago seems like a big win for them.Goose is king wrote:Saad had to go

So so far these guys look pretty even. So Pelchen didnt really lose anything on this trade.
