Question - Was pick 5 for 9 & 13 a real option?
If it was I believe we should have taken it IMHO. At 9 we could have got Matho and with 13 we more than likely could have got Collins. On top of that we would still have had 24 as well. I'm just not sure what Ameet and Trout were thinking.
It was a similar story last year. If I remember correctly we could have converted pick 1 for 2 picks in the top 10. I am disappointed we didn't go this way, especially this year. If we get Matho with pick 14 then I will be happy (sort of), but I just don't think we have made the right choice. If we had gone the downgrade option last year and this year, I personally believe we would have been in a much better/stronger position.
I'm interested in what everyone else thinks.

I am not sure about last year, but after what has happened the downgrade would have been better for sure this year.

Yeah. 3rd rounder for Carlisle should have got that deal done. Then it would have all fallen into place.

Made up story. Anyway I will bet Carlisle works out better than either of those picks.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Yep, I reckon we made a mistake drafting Raph Clarke so high too.

Let's give Paddy a few more years before you decide that your disappointed could be a future gun. Could be a failure also but let's back the decision to pick him and see how he goes.

We've been sticking to a strong plan in keeping in our high picks the last few years to get in elite talent. I think it will pay dividends in the long run. We actually have pretty good depth now with some clever recruiting. But we still have need for real quality. Having the courage to keep the picks that brought in the brilliance of Billings and the powerhouse that will be McCartin will be seen as master strokes. I was big fan of keeping pick 5 for an elite mid but that ship has sailed. Whats the point in trading down for two average players when we have a lot of average players on the books? We need the eilite talent to compete with GWS and GC. If anything we should look at trading up our picks, not down.
