All I can see is stuff suggesting that he's in deep s*** when he faces his new teammates.
I've seen a large amount of this type of wailing and "gnashing if teeth" by our supporters in the past couple of days, and I largely don't understand the level of it. I get that as Saints supporters we're a little gun shy of bad publicity given our reputation, experiences, and our "soft target" status for the AFL media to go after us big time at even a hint of an issue. But really, we couldn't possibly come out of this badly. The only issue I have seen and heard so far is that our club and players are fuming over it. The only problem I potentially see is if our playing group suffers disharmony as a result of Carlisle's presence. That would be catastrophic, but if that doesn't happen, what is the problem? I haven't seen the press caning us, I haven't heard of a single sponsor having an issue, so thus far there is no issue, as long as our playing group are able to accept him and he stays on the straight and narrow from here on.
The calls for his sacking are hysteria writ large. Are people seriously advocating that we torch a number five draft pick within 24 hours of having spent it? Unless we could go to the AFL and seek compensaton for the draft pick (would that be even possible, how would that work) then I think people calling for Carlisle to get chopped have rocks in their heads. And as for our recruiters being somehow to blame for not predicting this could potentially occur, well you may want to check the strength of your grip on reality.

Re: Carlisle "scandal"
Yeah.... HE well and truly burned his bridges.
I cannot, cannot blame him for absolutely hating the place at the end of his run at Essendon. The last three years there have been terrible. Especially for the players that were unknowingly, or perhaps naively drawn into the TB4 cluster borkage.
Would not be out of the question to think that someone at Essendon thought it great to hurt Carlisle's career.
That said....they didnt force him to shove a class 1 drug up his nose and post it on social media.
Jake should let everyone know who his mate is that released it.

As much as he's a victim of his own stupidity, the timing of the whole thing seems very odd. However I am probably the wrong person to ask, as I am I'm too old school for it to bother me too much. To be honest I couldn't care less if in his spare time he hoovers up enough coke to sink the Queen Mary while wearing a gimp mask and doing it to a goat. As long as he trains hard and plays well I'm happy.markp wrote:If he did it again tomorrow would you want him sacked?True Believer wrote:

Re: Carlisle "scandal"
ALFPA have come out and said they have no issues with McConville's conduct and NOT telling St.Kilda about the video!
Not surprised though. They don't want clubs knowing anything about the players (even though they are paying their salaries).

The guy is on his last chance (after all of 24 hours), that's not hysteria.
And the recruiters took a guy they knew was damaged goods, if he does well they are to be lauded, if he does poorly they shall be judged accordingly... that's the reality.

Re: Carlisle "scandal"
At least he'll be cheaper...
Jake Carlisle is back in Melbourne and met with his furious new St Kilda bosses on Friday.
His contract will be re-written after a video was made public which appeared to show him snorting a white line of powder.
The defender signed a contract with St Kilda on Wednesday, just hours before the footage was aired on a tabloid news program.
His manager Anthony McConville was in the meeting with Carlisle and Saints' representatives, News Corp is reporting.

It is thought Carlisle's original contract was worth about $650,000 a year, but will now be less, as the club either removes money he would have earned through promotions, or makes it more heavily performance based.

So does performance based mean based on the number of games, or how well he plays i.e. best and fairest votes, or a combination of both? I guess if he's not performing well in the games he plays he'll get dropped and miss out on earnings.markp wrote:At least he'll be cheaper...

It will be all or most of what you have mentioned but I doubt playing in the seconds will have any effect. At least 50% of players these days would be on a set contract with bonus so playing in the seconds doesn't matter.
