9.33AM: JAKE CARLISLE STATEMENT
After footage of Jake Carlisle was shown on 'A Current Affair' he has just issued this statement.
I have made a very poor decision and let people down and for that I am embarrassed and truly sorry. First, I would like to apologise to allSt Kilda members, supporters and staff, AFL fans as well as my new teammates.

I am aware of footage being aired of me last night and Iwant to be upfront and say that I made a mistake.

The video casts me in a very poor light and reveals clearly inappropriate behaviour which I regret but am accountable for.

I know that in a few weeks’ time when I join St Kilda I’m going to be expected to be open and honest with my new club so want to start byconfirming my error of judgment right now.

St Kilda have shown great confidence in me and when I startwith them I will need to earn their respect and win back the confidence of theplaying group and broader Saints community.

I will learn from my mistake and when I return to AustraliaI will commit to any Club or AFL requirements or educational programs.

Again,I apologise for my behaviour and stress that when I join my new Club, I will do everything I can to live up to the standards and values they are building at StKilda.

I know that in a few weeks’ time when I join St Kilda I’m going to be expected to be open and honest with my new club so want to start by confirming my error of judgment right now.

So he hasn't officially joined our team yet and was an Essendon player when this happened. All the footage of him is in an Essendon jumper.

This situation now is almost the same as Harley Bennell and Fremantle.
The difference is that we didn't know about this behaviour prior to the trade.

Footy loves 2nd chances and Jake has a great opportunity to turn everything around and knuckle down and repay our faith in him.

The trade is done. He will be a Saints player in 2016. Time to get behind him 100% and hope he can be a champion player for our club!

Time for the Saints to make a statement now about supporting Jake and having him adapt to a stricter culture in relation to drugs. We should praise our leaders and express confidence in their ability to guide Jake along this journey.

surely the saints can swing this to their advantage. If his manager new about it before it was aired and the deal was done can the saints change his contract under some sort of breach from his manager. Maybe pay him less then what has been reported and make it a performance based contract would work out good. We get to keep Jake but on a lower salary and he gets to start a fresh at a new club. I hope the saints can turn this into an advantage for us free up SC space for next year.

Just on another thing, this gnashing of teeth about young people and drugs in society is a bit disingenuous.

I am in my fifties and drugs were rife in society when I grew up in the western suburbs of Sydney

Heroin, speed, LSD, even Luudes were available. Dope was smoked by everyone.

I know as a fact a RL team were so stoned after winning the premiership in the very early 80's that half the team couldn't front supporters at the Leagues club. I know this because my friends mother was the paymaster at the club and we were on the front table at the club (just as stoned as the players).

Not bragging, just saying young people in their twenties take drugs, make stuff ups and then grow out of it.

Only real difference is that social media records everything for ever nowdays.

Thank god it wasn't about when I was in my twenties.

Taking drugs as an elite sportsman is not great, it is very poor, but to take them and then video it, is extraordinarily stupid.

The guy just got a new club and contract worth about 10 times the average wage a year for kicking a football.

All at the age of 24.

The stupid of Carlisle hurts so much, but I hope this is an absolute wake up call and he get his head down (not to a white line) and arse up and works so hard this is seen as a blip in a long career for the Saints.
