I love this crazy place.
Cute but psycho. Things even out.
Re: The Father All Mighty, Ameet Bains
I agree. Hats off to Bains. The whole football world was urging us to just trade pick 5 for Carlisle. Pelchan suggested we should do it because according to him and other experts "we need him". The media point out that good clubs like Geelong and Hawks just get these deals done so why can't we. Essendon tried to bully us because that's what big clubs do to clubs like ours. We held our nerve and getting anything above pick 5 was a win. We traded up from 24 to 14 and got 44 chucked in to assist with Bailey Rice, so yes, Thank you Ameet Bains for holding your nerve and being a pro.

The guy has seriously played this trade period out fantastically, securing Freeman and not getting sucked into giving up pick 5 for Carlisle. If this recent deal comes off it would just give an absolute fantastic icing to the cake!

FROM A MONEY PERSPECTIVEBernard Shakey wrote:The Bird will fly!Wayne42 wrote:It's not a deal until it's done. Bird might not fly.
Agree. He is on the outer at the Swans and that means his salary will plummet..and outside the AFL system the money on offer is a lot less.
At the Dons he will be able to get a good deal.... probably 3 years on good money when compared to what the average Joe makes.
FROM A FOOTBALL PERSPECTIVE
Times is done at the Swans. This give him another chanve to be a regular, and given the state of the Dons list should be a walk up start next year.
Flying the World in comfort thanks to FF Points....

Diadoro thought he was real smart when he got the Hawthorn offer and Clarko was on the phone to Carlisle. Then the mighty Ameet gets him with a squirrel grip and doesn't let go. Touche!

Unfortunately, Essendon have still done alright out of the proposed deal when really, they shouldn't have. They'll get pick 5. I hoped to get a it more in return but besides Carlisle going in psd maybe it's the best we could do.Linton Lodger wrote:Diadoro thought he was real smart when he got the Hawthorn offer and Clarko was on the phone to Carlisle. Making Dodoro look like an imbecile was a hope, which is probably the wrong way to go about things.... Good idea I'm not in charge then

I still can't believe we have up pick 5 in the National Draft.
Its utter stupidity of the highest order.
Hsvent we given up top 10 picks for players fairly regularly over the past 10 years only to see it fail horribly?
I'm perplexed by it.

Re: The Father All Mighty, Ameet Bains
Weren't Brooks, Fiora, Lovett and Walsh all trades for top 10 picks? Each time we justified it somehow, only to see it fail horribly and then everyone bemoan it for a year it two......until we forget and do the same thing again!
Madness.
Madness.
Re: The Father All Mighty, Ameet Bains
Reluctantly agree with JM.
Not perplexed, but think the club tries to be clever and I'm not sure evidence suggests its working. Traditional method is to use your low picks to get guns and trade in guys to compliment.

Re: The Father All Mighty, Ameet Bains
Brooks pick was obtained from Hawks for Spida; was a top 10 but not our pick originally.
Fiora was traded for Heath black.
Lovett was pick 16.
I don't know who Walsh is/was.
So one top 10 pick traded as far as I can see, none since 2002.

"...If there has been one recurring theme through this whole shocking mess, it has been the misguided, inflated egos and their ill-judged determination to cling to long-standing old boy friendships. The bad advice that has guided the selfish and culpable James Hird has not only punctuated this saga but symbolised it..."

I have a lot more faith in our recruiters than I did 10 years ago. We're much better placed to use pick 14 wisely.Johnny Member wrote:I still can't believe we have up pick 5 in the National Draft.

Wasn't Tommy Walsh an 'international pick' that didn't impinge on any draft picks?kosifantutti wrote:Tommy Walsh. I can't remember was he pick 3 or 4 in the draft?Rosco wrote:Brooks pick was obtained from Hawks for Spida; was a top 10 but not our pick originally.
