No because we have pick 14 coming back which is a lot better than keeping 24.
Also we get 44 which can be used for Rice or Sinclair.
You would use your last draft pick on sinclair which currently is in the early hundreds
Yeah - surely we use a very late pick on Sinclair?
yep.
As it stood this morning the Saints still had picks 5, 24, 45, 68, 81, 99 and 117 at next month’s National Draft.
Now we have picks 14, 44, 45 ,68, 81, 99 and 117.
Not hard to find out.
We actually don't have them. They always say every club has around 8 picks even if only 3 are delisted. At the moment if no one extra was delisted we have no picks. If one is delisted we have 14 and then 44 and 45 to use on Rice and 68 to use on Sinclair. Those other picks don't exist at all.

I am well aware of that. I know how the system works.
You are wrong of course.
We have delisted four players and at the moment have only recruited one. Freeman. IF we recruit Carlisle for the rumored picks we will have 2 live picks.
I hope he doesn't get suspended for two years and if he does that we have a provision in the trade agreement with Essendon that sees us get something in return.
SaintPav wrote:Disappointed that we are giving up pick 5.
I would take a calculated risk, stall and take him in the PSD.
SaintPav I can sympathise where you are coming from but at least there is quite a reasonable chance that JC will flourish alongside the experienced AR.
I have to go with AR's keenness for the big guy and assume that AR knows that Jake will make a strongly positive contribution to this developing team of Sainters.
For those who don't like the AFL points valuation of draft positions look away.
St Kilda OUT pick 5 = 1,878 points & pick 24 = 785 points, total = 2,663 points
St Kilda IN pick 14 = 1,161 points, pick 44 = 362 points, total + Carlilse valued at 1,140 points (between picks 14 & 15)
Essendon OUT pick 44 = 362 points, Carlisle
Essendon IN pick 5 = 1,878 points, Bird
Sydney OUT pick 14 = 1,161 points + Bird valued at 499 points (between picks 36 & 37)
Sydney IN pick 22 = 845 points, pick 23 = 815 points , total = 1,660 points
We have picks 14, 44, 45, 68.
We want to exploit Bailey Rice's father-son staus by waiting for another club to call his name before trumping with our father-son discount.
Pick 68 covers Bailey Rice being called at or after pick 52
Pick 44 covers Bailey Rice being called at 34 through to pick 43
PIck 44 with pick 45 as backup covers Bailey Rice being called at pick 21 through to pick 33
If we don't call Bailey Rice at 45 we leave him exposed between picks 46 and 51 with not enough 2015 points.
We need backup of another 75 points.
If we trade pick 14 rather than taking it to the draft maybe this danger zone can be covered in the deal.
Will pick 14 be used on Lachie Weller (pick 13 in 2014 draft) or will we use it in the draft.
If Fremantle threw in pick 56, (194 points) Rice would be covered.

Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

I suppose there's a chance it could fall through if Bird reneges
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

He has already been sedated with an overdose of TB4.
When he wakes up it will be too late.

Need time to digest this deal. I'm grieving for our pick 5 that lived such a short life with us - it had so much to give! But then it's hard to judge when you don't know the strategy of the inner circle. Perhaps there is a draftee they think could be an absolute gun that they think will slide to 14 making the trading down not so painful. Lenny was pick 25 or something wasn't he? STill think its overs as we were too desperate for Carlisle. Lesson to learn is to play it much cooler next time and don't put all your eggs in one basket.
The short life lived with us - captures some of the angst felt by some of us Bluthey. I was not keen @ all to see 5 leave the fold (after such a short time) but a Lenny Mark 2 @ 14 would satisfy me for sure.
Talking Lenny I thought he may have come to us with pick 7 way back when. Simply the fact that he wasn't a top 3 gives me faith we can do it again.
Pick 14 coming back in kinda soothes that somewhat.
I'm really starting to get a semi for Lachie Weller. When you compare taking a risk on an untried kid vs a kid that already has a year in the system, at one of the stronger clubs currently.....It feels like a safer bet.
Outside/inside with pace that can take a contested mark.... there is a lot to like.
"Now the ball is loose, it gives St. Kilda a rough chance. Black. Good handpass. Voss. Schwarze now, the defender, can run and from a long way".....

Lachie Weller, please make it happen Bains and Co, would be a steal if we got him for 14
Just on Jake Carlisle, I am absolutely rapt that we've managed to secure him, I wouldn't have been devastated if we had to do a straight swap of pick 5 to get him, we have not seen the best of young Jake yet. He is so good on his day and I'm sure he hasn't wanted to be at Essendon for the last couple of years so look out, he could be anything Also, absolutely love how Hawthorn ended up with egg on its face when our man turned his back on them - how dare someone turn down an offer to join the all conquering Hawks and possibly play in a premiership team next year - Jake is already a favourite of mine

We offered him a shitload more cash. He's not coming here for the love of the club.

me theory was that it was Never Hawthorns choice to be involved - but rather a query from Essendon to them and spread to media.

Love your thinking!!!
If that doesn't happen maybe Rioli should be our target!!!
I wasn't sold on the idea of recruiting Jake, but the idea is growing on me. It was pretty obvious from our last six rounds last season that we were still miles off the pace, despite our progress in 2015.
Two fifteen goal plus losses, an eleven goal loss to Port, and two six goal losses to sides who didn't play at their best when we played them. The only side we got near was Geelong, who we still couldn't beat, and who have, since we drew with them, added the best midfielder in the AFL, plus a good swingman, a ruckman, and another Selwood.
Our problem is our midfield, but our defence badly requires height, and Carlisle gives us that.
The WADA investigation is still a major worry though, although if it wasn't, we wouldn't have got him anyway.
Hope we land Freeman for a bit of outside run, get Rice as a Father-Son, and nab Lachie Weller for pick #14.

If this trade does go through I wonder what Jake Niall writes? That he reacted too soon? Idiot.

Freeman is ours, we've got Carlisle, we'll get Rice and Lachie would be the cream on the cake if we really want him!

No doubt the money would have played a big part but you often hear how players will take less to be able to play in a premiership team.
