The whole Carlisle thing has made me wonder, why haven't we got this deal done by now? Seems as if we are happy to part with a second round pick and the pies are happy with this? Am I missing something? Seems odd that there seems to be little progress in this trade as yet?

I heard a clip of someone from the Magpies back tracking on Buckleys comment about 'his problems ' would follow him to the saints ' yesterday, and Bucks had clarified them to the player. Possible Paul Connors

Apparently the deal is done and paperwork will be lodged by either close of business today or tomorrow. It involves next years second rounder.
"...If there has been one recurring theme through this whole shocking mess, it has been the misguided, inflated egos and their ill-judged determination to cling to long-standing old boy friendships. The bad advice that has guided the selfish and culpable James Hird has not only punctuated this saga but symbolised it..."

Thought more third rounder for a dude with risky hammies that even Pies with all their resources couldn't get right. Lets hope the kid can 1) get on the field and 2) play a bitSelhurst Saint wrote:Apparently the deal is done and paperwork will be lodged by either close of business today or tomorrow. If we go down a spot or 2 next year that pick will be around the 20 mark. Bit much and a bit risky maybe seeing as he's had bad hammers for 2 years.

Yes that was doing the rounds.
I suspect that we get something back THIS year as we need some points for Rice. If we have too big a deficit on Rice this year it will be deducted from our first round selection in 2016, which would bump it back. Whic we would not want.
So either a later pick from then, or us swapping picks with us getting the earlier one so that we gain some points.

Re: Freeman
This may be unfortunate for Collingwood.
If they are not in finals contention they may tank for improved their draft picks.
They will improve their own draft picks BUT if they slip below St Kilda our second round pick slips one place.
Of course we are only dealing our 2016 second round draft pick because Essendon is not prepared to deal on Carlisle.
Unfortunately that prevents us dealing our 2016 first round pick if we had wanted.
Take our pick 24 Essendon or we will take Carlisle for free.

Re: Freeman
Collingwood midfielder Nathan Freeman is set to join the Saints in a deal for St Kilda's second round pick next year.
The deal which is expected to go through Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning at the latest, will also involve an exchange of later draft picks.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?
Re: Freeman
Why next years and not this years?
I don't feel comfortable trading future picks, lets say the club finishes last.
The only hope supporters get is getting new talent through the draft, but trading that away the year before leaves that year pretty meh

I read somewhere (maybe BF?) that the Saints didn't want to use this year's 2nd round pick in case it's needed for the Carlisle trade.ripplug66 wrote:lefty wrote:Why next years and not this years?
