Not sure we want a bloke who "unwittingly" took methadone and got nailed for it. I know he has served his time but at his age he would not be a good fit for our club.

Yes, he has value to a club or coach that wants immediate results.
As for St Kilda he would be a list clogger, taking the place of youngster.
If he were then to get a senior game, he would be taking away learning experience from a younger player.
